Raleigh, N.C. — North Carolina State has been selected as the 2013 ACC baseball favorite in a vote by the league's head coaches, the conference announced Friday.
Six coaches picked the Wolfpack to win the league, four chose the North Carolina Tar Heels and Florida State and Virginia received one vote each.
With Florida State reaching the College World Series last season, the ACC has sent a total of 15 teams to Omaha since 2006. Seven ACC teams received NCAA Tournament bids in 2012, and at least five conference teams have been selected for postseason play in each of the past 11 seasons.
All 12 baseball teams open their seasons with non-conference games on Feb. 15.
The 2013 ACC Baseball Championship will be played May 22-26 at the Durham Bulls Athletic park in Durham.
If the past is any predictor, I wouldn't put too much stock in the current 'recruiting class' information. Don't forget there is also a major league baseball draft on the horizon and many of the MLB teams draft the same high schoolers as well. You really have to wait and see who really enrolls from the recruiting class lists and then see if they can maintain an academic eligibility as well. And then there is a possibility of a transfer if a player's is not satisfied with his situation.- Posted by wlcat609
