NC Central

NCCU's Moton is a hot commodity

Posted June 7, 2014

NC Central head basketball coach LeVelle Moton is enjoying his first off-season after a trip to the NCAA tournament and, as he’s quickly learned, things have changed.

Excellence rarely goes unnoticed for long, so when Moton guided NC Central from D-I upstart to a big dance invitee in such a short period of time, the homegrown talent could no longer stay under the national radar.

“It comes with the territory. It’s the difference between looking for jobs and listening for jobs,” said Moton. “North Carolina Central and my agent, they’ve been in contact and I really stay out of those discussions and try to enjoy myself, go recruit and stay out in the community.”

A college hoops hot commodity, Moton was contacted for the head coaching positions at Marshall and Florida Atlantic as well as some gigs at upper-echelon programs, even a few NBA teams at the end of those endless phone calls.

“I think you owe it to yourself just to listen, as a professional, as a young professional in the business because it changes so often,” said Moton.

Obviously those sales pitches are falling on deaf ears for now as Moton is still here. A man from humble beginnings with strong ties to the maroon and gray, he says it’s not about the green.

“Money is not the luring factor for me because I’ve been broke far longer than I’ve had three dollars in my pocket," said Moton. "Everything that comes across the board, my wife and I, we sit down and talk about it and if it’s in the best interest in our family we’ll entertain it.”

he's a really good coach, he should stay at NC Central until he gets a real head coaching offer, it will happen. Until then he should stay and keep winning.
