NCCU's Moton interviewing at Marshall, FAU

Posted March 28, 2014

WRAL's Jeff Gravley interviews NC Central head coach LeVelle Moton Wednedsay, March 19, 2014 at the Sheraton Gunter in San Antonio.

North Carolina Central head men's basketball coach LeVelle Moton is interviewing for head coaching positions at Marshall and Florida Atlantic University, WRAL learned Friday.

The head coach has been contacted by other universities for assistant coaching positions.

Moton led the NC Central squad to a 28-6 record this past season and a MEAC tournament title. The title earned the Eagles their first ever trip to the NCAA tournament.

"We know there's some competition but we're going to do what we can as a mid-major division one institution to keep Coach Moton at North Carolina Central," NC Central athletic director Dr. Ingrid Wicker-McCree told WRAL ahead of the NCAA tournament in San Antonio.

He has the opportunity to build a dynasty where he is and to make the NCAA every year as conference champs. Why wouldn't he stay and build his name rather than take a chance. Those jobs are just not that much better than what he has.

Hope Moton stays at Central; he's so much more than a coach - he's a father figure and means so much to the team and university.

NCCU can't match what either of them will offer. He has to take the best job available right now because those opportunities only come when you make the tourney. And there's no guarantee he makes the tourney again with NCCU...

Hope NCCU can match other offers so he will stay.
