Should John Swofford Resign ?
RE: Should John Swofford Resign ?
Did you know, that several of the more successful ACC coaches were against the last expansion and....were against the ESPN contract requiring them to play in Sunday night games.....but were told to "get with the program" ?

I seem to recall a certain AD who was on the committee and was described as "instrumental" in getting the ACC/ESPN deal done. This was used in describing her accomplishments. Let's see, what was her name......
RE: Should John Swofford Resign ?
Did you call for Corrigan, James, etc. to resign because of their ties to member schools?
yes.
my statement was a simple one, and one that would NOT be hard to carry out. there would be no shortage of worthy candidates withOUT prior affiliations to choose from... I can assure you.
the "conflict of interest" FACT doesn't change, no matter the school... UNLESS, each school takes TURNS appointing one of their own to run the league... otherwise, it stinks to high heaven.
fair and equitable =/= someone with prior ties to a member school
it's really not that complicated.

So, at the same time many of your brethren are crying about the ACC not keeping "traditional rivalries" sacrosanct, you think that commissioners who know absolutely nothing about the ACC would somehow be better? Honestly, I'm laughing because I doubt very seriously that you cared about the affiliations of any commissioner prior to Swofford and that the only reason you care about his affiliation is because it is with UNC which you loathe.

why do you keep avoiding my point about there being an OBVIOUS conflict of interest??
and
what makes you think running the ACC is different than running any other league in America??? ie- WHO cares what they know about the ACC... what did BUBBA know about "unc athletics" before he was hired on to CLEAN up the mess left him by baddour???
also, no one has ventured a GUESS as to WHY swofford made himself available for unc's NCAA review, but NOT for GT or Miami's....
If that REALITY (every one AVOIDING that question like the plague) shocked me, in any way... I'd gladly say so.

You nailed it. Direct demonstrated conflict of interest. Remember the reason given by UNC-CHeat officials as to why Swoffy was at the NCAA inquiry, "He's a tarheel." The same courtesy was not given to other schools.
Also, I would even call into the formation of the new league and scheduling as a conflict of interest as it benefits only the blues. The "blue" league has been stacked because of ESPN contract $$. I wonder if the blues will not ever play against eachother on the last regular season weekend?
Look at league competition. UNC-CHeat Swofford may not make coaching hiring decisions but he does have influence. The league in every revenue sport has declined in the league as a whole.
There is CLEARLY a conflict of interest in all of these examples.
Horrendous expansion decisions were made. He can't be fired for that but he should be.
RE: Should John Swofford Resign ?
You said, in so many words, Swofford had to go because you just can't trust any "Tarhole".
I never made any such claim.
why LIE???
also- you have still FAILED to answer my question.....
that, is REALITY.
g'job.

Perhaps my memory was slightly faulty. I wish it were easier to go back and find specific comments, but the site isn't set up that way. Without spending a huge amount of time, I may have been recalling your comment about Swofford in which you said "there's NO hope that a former hole employee would ever be less than COWARDLY".
Would you not agree that such a statement shows the bias I referred to?
I may have been mistaken (though not by much), but I didn't "lie" or even "LIE" to use your emphasis.
RE: Should John Swofford Resign ?
When I see evidence that State fans complained about Weaver, James, and Corrigan being "biased" because of their affiliations with other member schools, then I'll entertain Lunatic Fringe's(represented by ScottyClark and MarcoPolo) arguments re: Swofford. You guys are entertaining at least as you try to grasp at any potential excuse other than the obvious as to why your team struggles.
RE: Should John Swofford Resign ?
I can assure you that I NEVER made the claim you first attributed to me, the cowarly one, I did make, but that... as damning as it is, isn't in itself enough to dictate that person would NOT be capable of being FAIR and EQUITABLE, it was the commissioner's act, turning his back on MULTIPLE MEMBER schools while showing support for another, he oddly enough has TIES to.. that did PROVED that for me.
hence, WHY no one has answered the question I posed,... the one where I simply asked for OPINIONS... yet, no one has offered one.
telling.
LOL

RE: Should John Swofford Resign ?
How many national championships do y'all suppose NCSU would have by now if not for the UNC moles over the years? Would Bear Bryant still be a household name? Would anyone even know who John Wooden was?

RE: Should John Swofford Resign ?
In a recent interview, former UNC President William Friday said he no longer attends college sporting events because too much emphasis has been placed on money.
Swofford has pushed the expansion of the league and the contracts with ESPN thereby increasing the TV revenues.
Recently, the addition of 2 more teams has led many to believe that
long standing rivalries and traditions of the ACC are at risk.
Do you think Swofford has sold out the ACC for personal interests and should resign?
If not, what else could be done to save the ACC's core values that made it great in the first place?

I'm not a big fan of expansion but I'm afraid it's the new trend among conferences. I wish we could blame it on one person, but Swofford is simply doing the bidding of the member schools. The root cause is the addiction to TV money.
RE: Should John Swofford Resign ?
"as damning as it is, isn't in itself enough to dictate that person would NOT be capable of being FAIR and EQUITABLE"
It isn't in itself enough to show that
Swofford is incapable of being fair and equitable. It is, however, enough to show that
you aren't capable of being fair and equitable when discussing the ACC commissioner.
