Top 5 QBs Not Named Matt Barkley

RE: Top 5 QBs Not Named Matt Barkley

Seems like Amerson was UNC's best receiver last year in Raleigh.

Wow...I didn't realize how much better Renner's in-conference number were last season in comparison to Glennon. http://www.cfbstats.com/2011/leader/821/player/split07/category02/sort02.html

over inflated stats. most of his passes were little shovel passes or short passes where jones would catch and put up big yards. jones put renners stats on his back and carried him. unc's offense is so predictable. its either going to be a run or a play to draw the defense in if they are trying to blitz and then hit an open jones in the middle about 5 to 10 yards away. renner hardly ever aired it out. when he did against state to the endzone, amerson was glad to show him who his daddy was.

unc's short pass play is what hurt state in chapel hill. we would bring the blitz with our linebackers so about 10 yards or less away, there would be an open reciever who would pick up big yards because no one was around him to tackle him. i think o'brien finally figured it out and made unc try to throw down field which resulted in zero points in raleigh. i admit its a nice little play and i use it a lot when i play college football or madden but after a while, people start to figure you out.

Wow...I didn't realize how much better Renner's 15+ yard and 25+ yard completion stats were in comparison to Glennon (not to mention compiling more yardage with over 100 less attempts).

And to think what this elite QB might accomplish with Fed's wide-open offense this season and next.

GO HEELS!!!

Heck...he was State's best receiver (all year).

On a serious note, I wonder if Toby would consider using Amerson both ways...given the receiver situation over there.

That would be sick. Or use him on punt returns. The kid has obvious ball skills and speed. I wonder if TOBY's conservative gameplan would allow his all-american CB to play anything other than shutdown corner, though.

RE: Top 5 QBs Not Named Matt Barkley

State has enough good receivers to get the job done, and and a solid tight end to replace George Bryan...i seem to remember the same question about NCSU receivers last yr, and they wound up doing just fine....aamof, the underclassmen outperformed the seniors, and the expected best one, Bryan, prolly dropped more ballz last yr than the rest of the receivers combined...just wait, and watch Tobias Palmer take off this yr

yes, i would say that they have a good chance of scoring on NCSU this yr

Your optimism is much appreciated...I mean doing so against the best team in the state would be a major stepping stone to gaining national relevance.

RE: Top 5 QBs Not Named Matt Barkley

Not sure why TOB would use Amerson both ways given Rashard Smith already made the switch from CB to WR this offseason. IMO the depth issue at WR has been resolved, the only improvements that need to be made now are timing and experience. Obviously, those two will work themselves out.

Amerson has been getting looks at PR though, which could make things interesting next year.

Excellent feedback. On next week's show, we will take a look at the defensive side of the ball and the challenges at linebacker that face the Pack.

Haha. With 3 interceptions, the NCSU defense was technically the second leading receiver for UNC.
