Hans, what will it take

RE: Hans, what will it take

Why is it that our conference cousins due west are constantly telling us State fans we need to stop worrying about UNC and their athletic superiority, yet all we are hearing on this thread is their concern about our football coach, schedule, won-lost records, etc., etc., etc.

It seems to me that the more our program seems to be passing theirs, the more they must find something, anything, to try and put us/our football program down. Now that we seem to be a little better than them in football, football is less important/relevant as a sport. How does the sport that, money-wise, is king, suddenly is portrayed as mediocre, at best?

It's "The Carolina Way".

If you lose at it, it doesn't matter or is "irrelevant". Hence the snide remarks about State fans "only" caring about beating UNC, never mind the fact that most of the time when we're posting among ourselves about State football we're not even mentioning UNC. It's only when they interject themselves into the conversation that we mention UNC at all. Of course, you always have the off-the-deep-end fools that like to make fun of State fans for talking about going to the Fiesta Bowl last season (swear to God, I never saw one single State fan mention the Fiesta Bowl, it was only UNC fans) in an apparent effort to deflect attention away from their own, more mediocre football program.

I guess if you beat your chest about how great you are, how great your team is, how great of a collection of prospective professional players you have, how great your coach is, and what they're going to do only to see those great prospects fail to beat their non-rival school five years running while simultaneously sullying your previously virginal academic reputation and losing your coaching staff over academic and improper benefit issues, the only thing you can do with any degree of metronomic regularity at all is to try and pee on the non-rival for anything you can think of, either real or perceived.

I have arrove at the conclusion that envy must not really be green, but instead powder blue. They should know, however, they need to be careful when trying to pee on us farmers, what with all the electric fences we all have around our pastures nowadays. They've been warned.

Not to me. Football is huge and needs to be a more important part of athletic success at UNC. UNC has the chops, and the want, to be a top football school. And I'm not talkin about just beatin the Pack, I'm talkin Conference Champs and BCS mover and shaker. Unfortunately I can predict the future and say we will have to wait till next year to make that happen, but we will get a good start on it this year.

don't worry, I made that mistake once already. growing up in the rural south, you can get an education almost anywhere. :)

It "seems" to me that the more our program seems to be "passing" theirs...

LOL.
Got the "seems" right.
Still playing "catch-up".

sounds like you know what I'm talking about...needless to say, unlike some things,(like arguing with trolls),all it takes is one lesson. now that's an effective teacher. I believe the fence's winning percentage even outweighs Roy's. :)

RE: Hans, what will it take

I didn't attend State or Carolina, so I'm sure my opinion won't matter to the hardliners that post here. While my leanings are towards UNC, NC State fans should be proud of what was accomplished, especially this past year. You have good reason to expect more success during the next year. Unfortunately, when you're dealing with 18-22 year old kids, you just never know how things are going to turn out. You may improve, you may go backwards a bit. That's why we play the games. But you do have hope going into the next season in many sports, and after all, isn't that where you want to be? Basketball is my favorite of all the major sports, and beating NC State, Duke, Florida State or anybody else does not fulfill that need that I have to bring home the national championship trophy. Kills me to see Kentucky and Kansas play for the big prize, but hey, they did what they had to do. But back to NC State, they're doing what they need to do, so sit back and enjoy the ride. As all know, the road sometimes tends to have a few pot holes in it that will derail even the best vehicle.
