Of course the ACC's contract isn't as valuable as the four major conferences. Theirs are more valuable because they are stronger conferences and always have been. The ACC's contract is more valuable than it used to be, because now we are stronger as a conference than we have ever been before.

And BTW, Swofford doesn't agree to anything without the approval of the members.

Also, have you considered dropping this silly "got a link" schtick? It just makes you look like a twit.

RE: More ACC News

Instead of certain fanbases pointing fingers, maybe ask yourself, what has your school been doing to help? Of the almost 60 national championships during his time as commish has the university you pull for contributed?

Well said, Larry.

I liked this one. Swofford has done the job without having UNC at the center of his decision-making. His job is worth more than even thinking about being too loyal to UNC in what has happened to them in football. He led the way in regard to all other commissioners in the Country. He can't help it if University presidents, Boosters, BoG's and etc want something different. I read that Jim Weaver stated that VT has no intentions of leaving the ACC. But, you knows? I hope that we stay in the ACC. It's been good for us and all of the rest of the schools.

RE: More ACC News

The wishes of Duke and Carolina were overridden by the other members of the ACC.

Swofford is one of the best conference commissioners in the country, and I believe his 12 bosses recognize that.

yeah.... so, I'm gonna need a LINK to either of those... ??? do take your time.

and

something tells me that FSU's AD isn't pleased in the least with the mental midget that's in charge of the ACC.

If you need a link to the stories about UNC and Duke opposing the expansion of the conference from 9 schools to 12, you aren't going to get help from me. Get off your sorry azz and get them yourself - there are hundreds, and they are easy to find. And if you knew anything about sports in general, or the ACC in particular, you would understand that the FSU AD is not one of the commissioner's bosses. And that "mental midget" looks ten feet tall along side you.

Whatever you're drinking today, I want some of it! :-)

RE: More ACC News

My only problem with the "wait and see" approach is that's what the big east did. They got raided. The big 12 also waited and took a few licks. Swofford needs to be proactive, or he needs to be shown the door.

Do any of us know what Swofford really is planning?

Do we know for sure that other schools are in discussions with other conferences?

If Swofford wants to ensure the ACC's demise stepping down now is all he would need to do. Not a smart thing to do during all of this transition.

Lets face it, he's a target because he went to Carolina. He's made the league as profitable as ever and the league has won multiple national championships at multiple sports no thanks to certain schools helping with that. I think if you want to point fingers and complain ask first what your school has done over the last 15+ years to help.

Sorry, but I disagree. Swofford needs to go and needs to go now before he continues to destroy the conference. It doesn't have anything to do with him being a UNC grad, I wouldn't care if he was a State grad or where he was from. Swofford has done a very poor job of managing the conference. You have too many teams wanting out and not very many teams wanting in. Pitt, Syracuse and W Va all wanted in, of the 3 only W Va really wanted in because it was the ACC, the rest just wanted out of the BigEast. As far as profit, the ACC and the Pac12 are the only 2 conference that have their profits down for 3 years in a row. To be down there with the Pac12 says a lot, they don't have much to offer in football or basketball anymore. UNC fans need to stop supporting Swofford just because he is a UNC grad and State fans need to stop critizing him just because he is a UNC grad. The bottom line is that he is not doing a good job at all and if he doesn't go pretty soon the ACC will follow in the steps of the BigEast, which they already are heading that way and not too far behind. Swoffords biggest problem is that he has spent too much of the money and time promoting UNC and Duke basketball, that is understandable to a certain extent, nowever 2 schools can not support the whole conference. He has a big hand in making the other schools less competative, the ACC needs FSU, Clemson, VT football just as much as they need UNC and Duke basketball, they also need basketball programs from the other schools also to be successful. People seem to forget that Maryland also won a championship in basketball, FSU, Clemson, Miami and even GT were once powerhouses in football, but ever since Swofford has taken over all the focus has been on UNC and Duke basketball and those other programs have been forgotten. Another couple of years of Swofford and the ACC is doomed. I don't want to see the ACC fall to the level of C-USA, but if he doesn't go, its coming.

You sound like you are suggesting that during Swofford's tenure, schools like FSU, Miami, Clemson and GT have stopped being interested in being good at football and are now more interested in promoting UNC and Duke basketball instead. The commissioner has no control or influence over who those schools hire or how hard they try. Everything Swofford has presided over (it's the members who make the decisions, not the commish) has been focused on football, not basketball. The wishes of Duke and Carolina were overridden by the other members of the ACC.

You are correct but the commissioner has a very big part in national tv exposure. Without the exposure teams can't recruit as well as they could with that exposure. Go back and look at the number of games Maryland had on national tv during the NC year and the year after. Look at the number of games on ESPN that included other ACC teams that were not playing either UNC or Duke. And then look at the other conferences and you will see games with the 8, 9 and lower teams on ESPN. You see games with the last places teams in the Pac12, Big12, etc, but you do not see that with the ACC teams. You have to have the exposure to get the recruits and get the revenue and that is a large part of the commissioner's job. He took over in 97 I think and the teams other than UNC and Duke's revenues and national exposure started going down the vewry next year and continue to decline. Maryland won a NC, GT made the F4, but Swofford didn't do one thing to help keep them in the national spotlight. Even in football, you see the bottom teams from other conferences on ESPN, how many of the bottom teams from the ACC have been on ESPN. Its all in the way the deals are structured and he has catered to both UNC and Duke's basketball programs and have left the rest of the ACC out. Look at the new ESPN deal, it is terrible for the ACC. No the commissioner does make all the decisions, but when you have 17 out of 35 members as loyal followers, you are going to have the final say most of the time. Look at the people he is dealing with on these tv contracts, head of ESPN, UNC grad, Raycom, his son. All you have to do is look back on his tv deals and you can see he has abandoned the ACC in football and every single deal heavily favors UNC and Duke in basketball. Sure the will always be the top revenue schools and only successful schools if they are the only ones getting the exposure. He is not good at management, look at the BCS which he was the main architect.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I don't believe that any of what you said is true.

And I just don't understand the "17 out of 35 members as loyal followers" thing at all. Last I heard, the conference was up to 14 members, not 35.

RE: More ACC News

And that "mental midget" looks ten feet tall along side you.

and yet... here you are... attempting to DEFEND him.

the simple FACT of the matter is, he's as weak as rain water when it comes to the ENTIRE LEAGUE's interest, his intent is to keep the blues happy, and FSU's AD/BOG/et al, are clearly FED up with it.... that, along with his equally WEAK negotiating skills, that left MILLIONS of the $$$ on the table for the league.

suffice to say, he's NOT being paid for his, "intelligence quotient".

melancholy (for the ACC), really.

LOL, this one doesn't quite grasp, SIMPLE MATH... no wonder it backs the equally INEPT, slofford

And I just don't understand the "17 out of 35 members as loyal followers" thing at all. Last I heard, the conference was up to 14 members, not 35.

and pray tell.... WHICH "member team" has the HIGHEST % of folks (as graduates) on the BOG????

duck,
dodge,
deny,
and
LIE!

embarrassing.
