Sandusky verdict
I started this thread because the story is on the news side, and you can't comment on it until Monday.
I found it interesting that one of the 3 counts on which he was acquitted was the one involving assistant coach Mike McQueary. To my knowledge, that's the only incident Joe Paterno was made aware of. His lack of follow through led eventually to his ouster as head coach. Do you suppose a local jury took that into account when they voted not guilty on that charge?
RE: Sandusky verdict
should pour gas on him and set him on fire. joe pa is in the same pot as sandusky for not doing anything about after he was told.

Wouldn't surprise me, Ken.. That community still loves Joe Pa. My only confusion is why did it take so long to reach a verdict? :-)

Ken, I too agree that you would think that Mike McQueary's statements would have great strength. I'm glad it's finally over, and he got what he deserves. JoePa didn't do the job.

Haven't followed this closely in a while but I believe McQueary gave conflicting accounts of what occurred in the shower to a couple of different people. I give Sandusky a year & he'll probably be off the radar as we know it.
RE: Sandusky verdict
I like to think that this jury did the best it could to come up with a fair verdict. I don't really think that they considered anything other than the evidence in coming to a verdict. This man was a sick individual and deserved the punishment he got. It's too bad that so many had to suffer, because of his sick obsession.
RE: Sandusky verdict
According to an article I read earlier, Sandusky will be held in a county jail for 90 days. After that, he'll go to a state prison in PA and will eventually be placed in general population. I just assumed his attorneys would go for solitary confinement. It wouldn't surprise me to see this guy attempt suicide before his 90 days are up at the county jail. If that doesn't happen, he won't make it in general population....6 months or less.
RE: Sandusky verdict
The Sandusky case is just beginning to unravel. Before it is through, I expect it will take down many powerful people associated with PSU, the Catholic Church, and the State of PA. This will include the president of PSU, many Board members, and probably the current Governor of PA (former BofG and state AG). Unfortunately, this is probably still just the tip of the iceberg.
The incidents of pedophilia among powerful men has been disgustingly high throughout history. It was a major component of the Italian Masonic Lodge scandals as documented in judicial proceedings there (See Operation Gladio on the Wikis to be totally disgusted. The pedophilia is only part of the problem. Also, check out Berlusconi and the accusations and court proceedings against him.)
One reason Sandusky was allowed to continue was that no one would believe his accusers. A second has been implied: That there were other very powerful men who were involved and protected him. This must be investigated thoroughly. Reports suggest the possibility that other men among the most powerful associated with his charity might also have been preying on the boys, among the most vulnerable in our society.
Finally, this case should be a wake-up call for all of us not to be too secure or trusting of our heroes, our leaders, or those we trust. Just because we don't want to imagine them acting in such despicable ways should not mean we don't investigate such allegations.
In light of these cases, I think it is time we look again at the Lincoln scandal case. It was dismissed by most people two decades ago as too outrageous to have possibly been true, to involve powerful people from both political parties. Maybe, like with Sandusky, no matter how outrageous they seem, they deserve serious examination.
RE: Sandusky verdict
I don't think the acquittal in the McCreary incident will impact the civil litigation going on. Penn State has to settle these claims quickly and quietly for the sake of public relations. What it could do is introduce reasonable doubt in the criminal cases pending against former AD Tim Curley and VP Gary Schulz, since their case is solely dependent on the McCreary incident.

Man can't be trusted and everybody wants to rule the world.

He'll have fun with the other kiddy rapers there, hopefully someone will take care of him and make him their "special" friend. A noose and a strong limb would be my vote, hopefully he can encounter some tickle monsters on his block.
