- Posted by unc70I'm not really sure when it ended, but State fielded a club team for many years, composed of ROTC guys that wanted to represent the school. Football was clearly not a priority for State for many, many years.- Posted by TruthBKnown Left The Building
It's historical, yes. But do those early wins have any real meaning, no.
Since the mid-50's, the series is essentially a dead heat. Apparently, State decided to start trying.
I love how when Carolina is down, they pull out that overall series record "security blanket". It's cute. Keep sucking those thumbs and caressing that security blanket, boys. For nearly 60 years, State and Carolina are practically tied. Our ROTC guys got off to a very bad start, and fell WAY behind something like 30-5-6. It is what it is, ancient, meaningless history. Unless you're a Tar Hole desperate for something to help you feel dominant.
Anyone with an ounce of objectivity in their veins knows the history, and how meaningless it is. The ones that choose to ignore the history behind those numbers are the ones so pitifully desperate for something to feed their superiority complex.
Serious question I asked before:
"Everyone at State was required to be in ROTC until the 1950's. I have tried repeatedly to find anything to support this "club" football version of history. Now, during the Wars, there were military teams affiliated with both State and Carolina.
"S0, any of you have a link to something real that backs up your version? Wish my FiL were still around. While not in FB, he was an individual conference champ and later coach at State. He was commissioned upon graduation, just in time for WWII."
So what is the basis for this ROTC "club" football story regarding State? For forty years starting in 1916, Military Science was required of essentially everyone enrolled at State. As for "club" status, for much of the early period of college football, most schools provided less support than received today by club teams.
A couple of reminders. First, it was State's decision to play in Chapel Hill for the larger gate. Second, remember all those years when the Dixie Classic and the ACCT were in Reynolds; if went both ways.
Since no one from State seems to have any documentation that might help confirm the story of the ROTC "club" football at State, I suggest that claim be tabled until such time that further proof be produced.- Posted by unc70
BTW I have not made an issue of all time record. I will stipulate that since the ACC began, State has won almost as many games as Carolina and that State has the current win streak.
