Surprised both that Stanford hung on at #25, and that Boise only dropped to #26 - still out, but lurking. Their schedule will help them climb for the rest of the year, but there are no non-BCS teams with a chance to break through this season.

The unranked teams with the most votes in the preseason who won their opening game are (in order): Notre Dame (50-10 Navy); Washington (21-12 San Diego St); UNC (69-0 Elon); Utah (41-0 N Colorado)' and BYU (30-6 Washington St).

I'm guessing ND and BYU both move into the top 25 in the AP today.

GT was down the list a bit, but if they do beat us...since VT is at #16 that could very well enter the top 25. We will know soon. No way NC State is in the top 25 now as Sportznut made a comment about earlier. Go Hokies.

ND? Maybe GT if they knock off VT

I don't think State was in the top 25. At least not in the AP. #24 Boise lost, so they will likely drop out. #21 Stanford just squeaked by San Jose State, so they could fall out as well. Who takes their place?

I think State will fall out of the top 25 after Friday night

True - your argument was proven wrong, but is calling me Jethro and Billy Bob really a huge insult? OK, maybe it is, since they're probably common names around the NCSux campus. Surely you can do better, though.

You could possibly be a bigger idiot, but I doubt it.

p.s. It's been well established that I have a degree from UNC (probably while you were still playing with yourself in the sand box), while you've established nothing except how big a fool you are.

once again for the mentally handicapped: stating outcomes =/= making a comparison. I would have used a word such as "like" or "similar" or wait a minute here. You never even went to unc. Why am I responding to you again?

You compared having a ranked team with not going to a bowl game. Apples to apples?

Lulz. reread my post. I said unc N O T going to a bowl game, Jethro. As in you're not going to one this year, while we have a great chance of going to a bowl and ending the season ranked. I did not compare the two. I was stating the likely outcome of the season.

So to recap, billy bob, YOU made the comparison. Now if you would, please go back to walmart with the rest of your bretheren who never even set foot in chapel hill.

UNC finishing with a bowl game - 29 times

We will know NC State's future by the time of the Florida State game. Those first five games are critical.

You're right. Ken D told me this too 3 weeks ago. Anyway, I hope that our new OL get be ready. It will be a challenge. I simply don't like to open with a Conference game.

I can agree with a few like Bama and USC. We'll know more after the first few games. I just hope that VT can snag the 1st at home. GT is a tough 1st game opponent.

The ACC's problem typically is that they have 6 or 7 teams bunched together, rather than a couple of truly dominant teams. When you get into that bubble area, it's hard to hold on to a ranking when you're almost sure to have three league losses. Balance is fun, but it doesn't help in the rankings.

  • BlueDevils00 Aug 15, 2012

Awesome! 5 ACC teams in the top 25. NC State at #25 is about right. Hopefully they can leapfrog a couple of those teams by years end, but its a good start. Wishing for a great season.

I don't believe in preseason polls, but the ACC is well represented in this one. Hopefully, NC State will still be in the top 25 at season's end.
