The 5 Most Overrated Teams in College Basketball

North Carolina State

2012-13 preseason ranking: 6

2011-2012 final ranking: 20 (24-13)

Making a Cinderella-run into the Sweet 16 as a No. 11 seed last season won N.C. State many fans. But did it win them a place in the top 10? Not even close.

Sure, C.J. Leslie's decision to return for his junior year and with the recruitment of Rodney Purvis is a huge boost for the Wolfpack, but let's be realistic.

N.C. State finished the regular season 20-11 a year ago and were unranked. If you ask me, I value a 31-game sample a whole lot more than I do a three-game sample.

Then there's the fact that the Wolfpack are scheduled to play seven teams that are ranked. That doesn't bode well for a team that went 0-8 against ranked teams last season.

Don't get me wrong, N.C. State will be good this season. But will the Wolfpack be good enough to give North Carolina and Duke a run for their money in the ACC? Probably not.

Why would I complain about it? It's a rational positive outlook on State's upcoming season. I have no problem with that. If everything goes very well, they could finish that high.

I can see a ranking in the high teens for a big chunk of the season. Top ten, not hardly. I think unc will be ranked too high the start of the season too.

I love how bleacherreport is a legit source of info for banging on others opinions on State, but it's hack garbage when it has articles on the unc scandal.

Not any more than it's killing you that the Heels have been "considered" better than the Pack in football the last five years. But I'll take the wins (13-0 or whatever it is) just like I'm sure you would rather keep the 5-0.
I'm more interested in what happens on the court/field than the magazines/papers/blogs. Call me old fashioned.

Last 2 times UNC was picked 3rd in the conference...
they finished 1st.
