  • Chapel Hail Nov 12, 2012

... yes, STATE remains undefeated in the Atlantic Division after thumping the Deacons, so really if they do beat Clemson & BC to close out, then I think the ACC should recognize the fact that they won their Division outright, having gone undefeated in their Division, and so should justifiably represent their Division in the ACC Championship game, it's just common sense!!!!!

If State played 9 conference games and went 6-0 in their division but lost 3 conference games to teams out of their division, their record would be 6-3 in their divisional standing. If FSU went 4-2 in the division but went 3-0 against the other conference teams, their record in the Atlantic Division would be 7-2 and they would be the Atlantic Division champions. Its really pretty simple.

I'm a State fan, but he is right and you are totally wrong and must not know very much about sports. The ACC, just like all conferences, college, pro, high school, etc go by conference losses in their standings not divisional losses. Divisional losses are only used as one of the tie breakers. Look at the ACC Atlantic Division standings, FSU 5-1, Clemson 5-1, State 2-3. Nowhere will you see that State is undefeated in the division and that would only be mentioned as a tie breaker, and it would be the second tie breaker, the first would be head to head match ups, then the divisional record would come into play and that would only happen if 3 teams were tied. State and FSU tie, State wins due to head to head match up. FSU and Clemson tie, FSU wins due to tie breaker. For the divisional record to even come into play, State, FSU and Clemson would all 3 have to be tied, but even then at this point the divisional record still would not come into play because State would have to beat Clemson also to even stand a chance at a tie, so they would win by beating both teams, not by the divisional record. You would have to have State beating FSU, FSU beating Clemson, and Clemson beating State for them to go to the divisional record for the tie breaker and that's not going to happen because if Clemson beats State there is no chance of a tie. So in other words, State stands about as much of a chance as an ice cube in H*ll of winning the Atlantic Division. As I said, all conference, college, pro, etc work that way, they work that way in football, basketball, baseball, and about all sports that I know of. Just as if the Panthers would go undefeated in their division beating the Saints, Falcons, Bucs twice and go 6-0 in their division, if they lose to the other teams and finish 6-10, they are not going to any kind of playoff or championship game.

Hate to tell you but State has 3 ACC loses, FSU has 1 loss. FSU would have to lose 2 more games, State would have to win the rest of their games including against Clemson, and Clemson only has 1 loss and would have to lose another game besides the State game. While State might be undefeated in their division, the ACC is just devided into 2 divisions and goes by ACC loses, not divisional loses. Fsu and Clemson both could lose another game and still finish ahead of State in the division.

The reason that VT has sucked is that Logan Thomas hasn't done 50% of what he did last year. We beat Clemson in all phases of playing a thing called football. VT had 406 total yards vs 294 for Clemson. 25 1st downs vs 14 for Clemson. 4 TO's !!! If VT can limit our team to 1-2 TO's.....VT could upset FSU.

If State can beat them I know we can if our Cam Newton (Logan Thomas) can get his head on straight. FSU is primed to lose at least one more. If Logan Thomas can have a solid game, we will beat them at home.

Boyd did not beat US. Logan Thomas beat VT. We sacked Boyd 5 times. Logan Thomas beat my school. For that I hold Frank Beamer responsible for not taking Thomas out since Clemson and Miami. He should have at least given our back-up some snaps. Lail is his name.

After Fla State beats Va Tech and Clemson beats Md, it doesn't make a darn bit of difference what State does because they will both be 6-2, at worst. The best the wussies can do is 5-3.

How many years does he have left on his contract? I think she already knows the story. He just not giving the State fans what they want. I was listening today to Joe and Adam today and they were discussing the issue. They seem to think Debbie Yow won't keep him around. I don't think the Pack Fans are happy with him either. Even if he wins all or his remaining games, the loss to Carolina, Virginia and the close win at Maryland could seal his fate.

TOB has some money left on his contract. But. One game will spell it out. IF WF can beat NC State, Debbie Yow will know the story for the next 4 years. She is one of the more astute AD's around. She will not play. Clemson should walk on State. BC is a win. And, if anyone thinks that FSU will lose to MD......

    ???

If Seminoles win out, they finish with 1 conference loss.
If wolffies win out, they finish with 3 conference losses.
The team with the best conference record in each division is selected to participate in the championship game.

... agreed, but what's really interesting is even if Florida St. wins out, if STATE wins out then they still go to the ACC Championship because they beat the Seminoles, Clemson would have lost to STATE, so the PACK would have won their Division outright, remaining undefeated in the Atlantic, despite their total Conference record.

  • kato_karma.v3 Nov 5, 2012

No argument on that here and your comment puts things into perspective...

Based on the inconsistent team performances over his 6-year tenure and the fact that the cupboard is practically bare for 2013-14, TOBy is very likely gone unless State wins the ACC Championship.

  • kato_karma.v3 Nov 5, 2012

Jeff Gravley and ESPN 99.9 radio talking-heads are of the opinion that TOBy is done regardless.

Earlier in the year, TOBy said this was the deepest/most talented roster he's had at NCSU. A State caller expressed the current situation quite succinctly -- if not now, then WHEN will TOBy produce something other than a borderline relevant team.

Gravely said the writing on the wall was already started before the Terp game last season and Yow has had her short list ready.
