How do you feel about George Washington? Should D.C. change its name because he was a slaveowner? Should they go ahead and demo the Washington monument? Burn all of the dollar bills in circulation? Because, according to your logic, honoring such a man is simply celebrating racism.

LOL! Chapelthrill thinks that anyone who's not a Confederate sympathizer is an "America-hater." It's been 147 years, man - let it go. I suppose you can delude yourself into believing that "real Americans" are pro-slavery and anti-federalism; Thomas Jefferson certainly fits the mold.

I'm more of an Abraham Lincoln type of guy myself. I guess he was an "America-hater" too.

So what have we all learned from this thread?

    (1) UNC is a historically racist school that still proudly cherishes its Confederate history, KKK ties, and prominent faculty members who promulgated Nazi psuedoscience.

    (2) A few individuals at NCSU and Duke have made mistakes too. Still, those few mistakes are far different from the continuous, pervasive racism seen throughout UNC's history.

    (3) UNC fans are not actually "people" at all, and are appropriately referred to using "it," rather than personal pronouns like "he" or "she."

I think that pretty much sums it all up - good chat, folks (and non-human UNC scum)!

I'd put both incidents down in the same category-things that were good-intentioned (I don't think that either the Duke player or the UNC sorority were trying to be racist) but turned out to be in rather poor taste.

So much talk about racism because some in the South still honor their fallen soldiers from the Civil War. I have no problem with that. The great majority of them neither had slaves or wanted to have them. They were only trying to protect their country and their way of life.
