    LOL

    "limelight this year"....

yet the article speaks to this having been in the works for the better part of a year.

I will admit though, your conspiracy theories are nothing, if not amusing.

What foundation? The foundation of his new house? You think if he named the foundation others would give also?

This is strictly a business decision and I have no problem with it, none. He played pro ball a long time ago before big contracts etc.. He is not Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson or Larry Bird. He is taking advantage of NCState being in the limelight this year and his stuff being more valuable because of it. With NC State being so bad for so long the opportunities for him to capitalize on his fame were limited to the local audience. I think it is a smart move to sell stuff he doesn't want when it is at the highest return.

How he uses that money is his business also - I have never heard that his wife is sick to the point that it puts them in a financial bind - link me if you don't mind. The problem I have is State Fans wanting to come on here and make it something other than it is - a smart business decision

I hope he gets enough to live a comfortable retirement - it's a shame he turned into a poster child for what typically happens to a well-paid young pro who squandered his fortune on drugs, and poor financial planning/management.

He truly was one of the best college basketball players I ever saw in action, if not the best. If he took care of his money the way he played the game - he'd be richer than Warren Buffet today.

Good luck on the auction DT!

There are no NCAA issues with the school buying these items through the auction site or from him directly.

This is where NCSU faithful who brag about having a ton of money, ex: ScottyTwist, and brag about living in a huge house in the best neighborhood should step it up. Since DY has already lamented about the Pack being 11th in the league in donations, I'm not sure David to get a lot out of the NCSU fanbase. We will see. Time for John Murphy to open his wallet. What about you ChickenSAC, you brag quite a bit on here, how about show us your game? I'd buy some stuff if I had the bones. Great guy and the greatest of players.

if i had my way i'd buy every single piece, then give them all to the bball team for display in the dail center and wherever else they want to show them off.

it would be nice if state bought all of the items, but i'm not sure what the guidelines are for the school buying stuff from a booster.

Len Bias would have been one of the NBA greats. He was a pleasure to watch play. I hope State fans buy some of this stuff and put it on loan to State.

Were the nets made of nylon way back then? Because I doubt that cotton would hold up after all these many, many, many, many, years.

Sure it was. Of all the information in the story, one can certainly see how they would want to remove that character-indicting tidbit. :-)

p.s. Whatever the reason he's selling, or what he does with the money, it's sad for him to be in that position. Hopefully, everything works out for the best.

On my phone, too hard to navigate with my lack of service here...

I just re-read it though, and they've amended the original article where it spelled out which charity part of the proceeds were going to.

    It was in there earlier....

I have watched a bunch of ACC basketball since I was in elementary school. David Thompson, Len Bias, and Michael Jordon were three great ones. Bias never was able to show us what he could have done after Maryland. His elevation was higher than the other two. MJ and Thompson are close, but I have to say that MJ was the greatest of all players in our History of basketball. His Pro career put him out there. He probably had more determination than most.

Thompson is a humble man and was always a man who did things with honor and dignity. I agree with kato. He as the greatest player I ever saw play the game. A true hall-of-famer, and a real gentleman.

Dude would have easily approached 40ppg at State if they allowed dunking and had the 3-pointer. To date, hands-down the best college b-baller kato ever saw play in person. What he did at 6' 3" (at best) was simply amazing.

According to another article his wife is sick. So, I'm sure some of the money will certainly assist her situation. Thompson was one of the greatest of all times.

I would hope that The university or would buy the ring for their HOF museum. It would be nice if an alumni bought it an at least loaned it to the museum.
