Need to change the name of this thread to UMass vs NC State. Much better performance. Still a diamond in the rough but things are looking really good.

Agreed. The potential for this team is off the charts but right now we (State) seem to be playing VERY sloppy. Unforced turnovers, being out rebounded by a smaller team, and lack of execution by upperclassman are all things that need to be addressed, and in a hurry.

Granted, it's pretty ignorant of someone to expect a team to be in mid-late season form when they're only in their second game. Heck, just a few weeks ago UNC was LOSING to Shaw in the second half.

NC State had more combined talent than Penn State could muster. Even though Lorenzo Brown and Scott Wood played poorly and Howell got himself benched for early fouls, the rest of the team, mostly the freshmen, stepped up to the challenge and PSU did not have the defense to stop Leslie, Purvis and Warren. This team did not step on their opponents' throats and crushed until the game was over, but they did enough to win and allow coach Gottfried to substitute the back end of the bench. De Thaey played better than I expected and Vandenburg still needs more playing time to get more comfortable on court. Considering this team will have several more opportunities for the lower level subs to get playing time, this team can really get itself into a good postseason position for ACC and NCAA. The rest of the ACC better watch out for the Wolfpack.

Sometimes it's hard to motivate players. I don't think it will be hard to motivate them against UNC or Duke.

Not impressed at all. Like the announcer said, that type of play might get you past these cupcakes, but it's not going to cut it against Duke and UNC. They'd better tighten up.

State played very poorly in stretches and a couple (Brown and Leslie) did not play up to potential. Considering the down game for some, this was a big win for the team. The fun has started.

I was lucky once again. I'll take a win over BC on Saturday at BC. If the Hokies lose this one, we burn 20 years of going to a Bowl game. Logan Thomas has not done the job. Beamer and coaches still believe. 15 Int's tells this ol coach that this isn't right.

The Michigan and UConn games will indicate how good this State team really is.

State wins by at least 16-20 pts.

Pack needs to score early and often and blow them out.

Michigan will be the first real test, holding out on my unbridled enthusiasm until after that game. Regardless of what happens in these OOC games, the ACC is a different kind of bird. The best team doesnt always get the W and the worst team can beat any team on any given night. But with that said, I use to dread the games at UNC/Duke as I knew we would have to go in and pull off the "upset", every fkn year. This year some of the angst has been taken off and even if we drop a game to the boys in blue it wont be because we didnt have the talent or the coach. I hope this team meets at least the halfway mark on the expectations set before them this year (although Ill need help finding half of unlimited) and it will be nice (barring any injuries)to be the team everyone is trying to "upset". Go Pack!!

Penn State is pretty weak this year. I fully expect another ~40 pt stomping like the last game, if the starters and first-string bench players get most of the PT. In the previous game, the team experimented a lot with different lineups (some were "worst case scenario" lineups that got fairly significant PT - good strategy in early games), and also put the backups in with ~3 minutes left. They still scored nearly 100 pts. NC State is the real deal.
