Some people (who hate NC State) continue to twist the facts concerning Ms Yow and her time at Maryland. It was the coaching staff who hated taking orders from a woman that led to Maryland's downfall. Everyone in Maryland knows it and eventually even those in Durham will realize it too. Her leadership at NC State has been decisive and evident. Many ABS'ers laughed at her when she hired Coach Gottfried and his staff. Just look how that hire has turned the basketball program around through positive coaching and recruiting. I haven't noticed any drop off in booster support nor a mass exodus of coaches who don't believe they can work with/for her.

I agree with you 100%, but it begs the question: Why do so many of you obsess over us? I mean, PackNoPride named himself after our school and spends all his time on our board, but you're gonna try and tell me he's not preoccupied with State? That's like a kid calling himself Skywalker, then swearing up and down he's not obsessed with Star Wars...

We are OK with the University, now obsessed over spanking Red Ragers...it does get a bit mundane but is still loads of fun.

ABS fans??? Now thats a good one!!! Lol! Only the most respected universities like UNC have fanbases that dedicate their entire life to obssessing over them. It also requires winning at a high level! SCC has failed at this sir!! Keep dreaming though!

Isn't that sort of like You Heels fans proclaiming to be the best team in the state, yet you went 1-2 against in-state competition?

Just cause you "claim" something doesn't make it so. :-)

Well said Jbrd, however Yow has to own the mis-calculation of the payback for the renovations at Byrd Stadium, which publicly everyone has admitted is pulling MD down into the sea of Red Ink. It is what it is, nothing personal. One persons twist, is another persons valid explanation. As far as the coaching goes, MD has not been relevant in football since the early/mid 80s and Edsall will not turn it around, so no one can hang that on DY. GW was a great coach, but was he HOF caliber? No, not IMHTHO. Go back and re-read her scorcher to the BOT about NCSU being 11th in the league in collecting money from boosters. That agian, is a fact and is where the Pack is. It's up to NCSU alumni and boosters to give, and give generously. As many on here love to hate on the Heels, they have deep pockets and they give very generously. Same for Duke, even though private, the endowments are like a fat roasted pig. Yow knows as well as anyone, you can't do but so much on a shoestring budget, and the Pack needs a much better cash inflow if they want to play big time football.

Regarding the coaching change, Yow was not responsible for the Edsall hire. Yow accepted the AD position at NCSU on June 25th, 2010 and Fridgen didn't resign until after the 2010 season. If Yow would have stayed on at Maryland she would have hired James Franklin as head coach (Yow named Franklin coach-in-waiting in 2008). Needless to say, Maryland would be in a much better position had she stayed.

In basketball, Yow and Gary obviously did not get along. Gary was not much for taking barking orders by a woman, especially one as involved as Yow. However, one of Yow's biggest gripes about Gary was his recruiting. The DC market is home to a vast amount of high school basketball talent (especially AAU) and Gary, plain and simple, hated the AAU system. As AAU's role in college basketball grew, Gary's refusal to develop any relationships with the "coaches" resulted in a number of highly talented players leaving his own backyard to play elsewhere. This same inability to recruit top talent is what has put O'Brien and Yow at odds. I have a few stories I'll post once the O'Brien era has passed, whenever that may be.

Yeah, everyone knows that. I didn't hang Edsall on her, thats on the President and the new AD. Them letting Franklin get away after running Claiborne away, then Ross shows that the folks behind the scene there are incompetent on a good day. GW was GWs worst enemy. He can't hang his failures on Yow.

So we are only talking football? Yep, Duke finally got us and WF/Grobe just caught us napping. I'm chalking it up to Fedora getting the team on track as far as the focus thing goes.

Vacation has turned you into quite the cynic!!!

Duke was bound to get you one of these times and this year happened to be it. All around, the in-state ACC games for UNC this year were great. UNC won/lost all three by a play. The chips just didn't fall your way, it happens. In the end, it was a good first season for Fedora.

Just for talking points, I think Grobe is one of the best coaches in the ACC. He seems to do the most with what he's got.
