Coaching pecking order
If Yow decided TOB had to go, it's clear why she was in a hurry to do so. By my count, there are at least 9 current vacancies in the six BCS conferences. There may be more, but I've lost count.
They are: Arkansas, Auburn, BC, California, Colorado, Kentucky, NC State, Purdue and Tennessee.
Where do you think State ranks in that group as desirable coaching jobs?

Ahead of BC,, maybe California and Kentucky?
How did I do, Ken?

right behind the 3 SEC teams not named UK.

I think I'd substitute Colorado for Cal on your list. Is anybody aware of any other vacancies? They were flying pretty fast yesterday. There may also be some that happened earlier that I missed.
RE: Coaching pecking order
I almost included Col. Has California ever really had a good program?

Under the coach they just fired they had a pretty good run for ten years. Averaged 8 wins a year, won 8 or more 6 times (10 wins twice, #14 final poll rank). Eight bowl games in 10 years. Then they went 3-9 this year and canned him. That may make some coaches pause.

Coming to coach @ NCSU would be a step-down for the Butler coach.
RE: Coaching pecking order
How attractive a school is depends on the coach a lot. I think NCSU could be attractive as most of the schools on this list because Yow will likely not flinch at writing a big check if she can get someone that she really wants. If the money is comparable, there are a lot of advantages as far as long term security at a place like State versus the often quick to be fired SEC coaching carousel. The only disadvantage State has right now is the roster and how quickly the new coach will be expected to win at State.
