I guess DY was looking for a coach who could get his team to a bowl game. Sonny Dykes didn't manage to do that this year. I wonder if that will be held against him when other vacancies are being considered.

The media was saying he was going to be hired.

Criticism from someone who is factually wrong multiple times a week like yourself is almost cute, but closer to sad.

Another of your many many predictions proven wrong.

Why don't you quit while you are way behind.

For State to say they are going to pay between 2-3 million, I would have thought of a larger name in the coaching circles. I've never heard of him previous to this search at State. Yow did OK with Gott. But Gott did great with hiring Lutz.

Seems to me she has a problem with mediocrity and is willing to send coaches packing if they cant get beyond that. I think Yow could be the best or worst thing to happen to State. Im leaning toward the best just because I like her tenacity. Seems like shes driving the bus, headed to a destination, and those who dont like the route are sent kickin' rocks

I've said all along that I liked TOB, but, couldn't wait to meet the one AFTER him, whenever that time came. I have that much trust in Yow.

Yow did have a big grin on her face when she mentioned Franklin.

what's funny is that as soon as yow said that franklin isn't a candidate i told my wife that means he's been hired already LOL. i doubt he's leaving vandy, he's on his way to legend status over there.

This is NOT NCSU's best option.

No way you give a guy 1.5-2 million that's making $750K coaching in the WAC with a 22-15 record. Also, the spread shucks ! Unless you like going to track meets instead of football games.

    If can't get BCS/ known name coach such as Franklin...AGAIN, Dave Doeren ( DC b-4 HC ). 22-4, 15-1, Conf.Champ, won bowl.

This year lost season opener by ONE point to a B1G team. Then won 11 straight to play in consecutive(2) Conf. Chanpionsip games. Won the 1st.(last year)

Dykes, TB, and he's bringing Tony Franklin with him. If he can land himself a DC, watch out.

But hey, I wouldn't mind James Franklin proving me wrong.

I keep hearing that Franklin, Yow's friend at Vanderbilt, is going to be the one. I know Yow said he wasn't being considered, but, sometimes that's to throw everyone off.

Dykes will be the new coach, just a matter of finalizing the contract.

And he can recruit, so I wouldn't worry about that. While at Texas Tech rivals had him rated as one of the top 10 recruiters in the nation. Add to it that he'll start off by adding the #2 dual threat QB in the nation and I think fans will be surprised.

He even beat out Ole Miss and Miss St. for recruits at La. Tech. Of course the game will change as he will be recruiting new territory in the East and SE as opposed to the midwest. The big thing is, Dykes is bringing his offensive coordinator who is one of the most innovative minds for the spread offense. Should entice some nice athletes. Wouldn't mind if he left behind his DC though..

you're absolutely right. coaches have to get their shot somewhere, otherwise we wouldn't have urban meyer, brian kelly, and a bunch of other successful guys that came from mid major schools.

i can accept changing coaches every 6-7yrs looking for the right guy instead of languishing around .500 every year and playing in lower to middle tier bowl games. in my opinion, if you aren't getting better then you're getting worse.

You never know with the step up coaches until you give them a try. He sure did a good job where he was this year. It might or might not work but it beats the heck out of not trying to improve.

i'm not completely sold on this...only because i don't know how well he'll be able to recruit. he certainly has the offensive know how, and the defense should be ok if he hires a solid def coord (maybe tenuta).

does he have the name recognition and personality that top tier recruits will be drawn to? that's the million dollar question. or two million i guess in this case.

So, does this mean that State will score 50+ in the bowl game? Speaking of bowl games, how would Belk bowl not take State given a choice?

  • UNC - The Fagship Nov 27, 2012

Kind of funny, actually. Too bad most of the uber-pc crowd at Orange County Remedial College will probably be up in arms about his last name. SMH
