For sure. If anyone else is hired, all the haters will say Yow went through a dozen (again) before she got one to say yes, and we had to settle for him.

If Sonny Dykes is the right man for the job, and State is now poised to get a deal done quickly, wouldn't that suggest we'd know something by now?

One thing is for sure. If State doesn't hire Dykes, for whatever reason, some will claim that he turned the job down.

^ Better than the 63-28-6 that it WAS 6 years ago. My optimistic view says it will continue to look better as the years go by. :3)

I'm going to be way more optimistic than Ken and say that I think the ACC is poised to become a stopping point for many coaches, not a pass through. I'm hoping if Fedora is the real deal, UNC will "show him the money", and there are plenty of recruits to go around in this big world. Butch showed you can recruit quite a few NFLers into the conference. I just hope the TV deal gets sweeter for the ACC.

Getting the Wolfpup train back on the track may take awhile. I like the "regularly"...my, my, that 5 in a row has even gone to your pramatic head. If anything about the last 30 years of football between us shows, the series is very streaky, with the streak now probably favoring UNC. Fedora has a jump start on the Pack program in several ways...recruiting, established into the program already, on an upward trend. NCSU is unfortunately going to go through the pains of a coaching change which will be to lose a few recruits, and also you lost a ton of seniors and a really good QB. The Pack was already staring a huge rebuilding year in the face, now a new coach and lukewarm recruiting with a new system.

64-33-6 sez hi to "regularly"!!! B)

If you look into the programs that you mention and most of the ones in a similar position, you will find that asst. coaching attrition is a huge factor in their decline. Good assistants are in many ways as valuable as the head coaches themselves yet are often overlooked.

HaHaHa. If Fedora is willing to jump ship from UNC, it would set a precedent that you would NEVER recover from!

But, no. He's not ANYWHERE on my list of wishes. I want him to stay right where he is, so, that our new coach can get us back on track to regularly beating you. Then, all you'll have to fall back on is that belief that Fedora got TOB fired. I can see it now. "Yeah, but, at least he got TOB fired back in 2012.". LMWPAO

Exactly. You hope you can hang onto them long enough to build a winner and start building enough of a reputation that more and more of the top recruits give you a look. You may not get many of them, but you start picking up a few here and there and you slowly build your way into a consistent Top 25 team. In your best years, you have a Top 10 team and play in a BCS bowl. The next up-and-coming coach will kill to replace the guy who moved on.

Oh, ABSOLUTELY! There is always the "next" one who is ready to move up to that next level, even if that next level is one of us. All one can do is keep them as long as possible, then hope you hit another homerun with the next hire. I think the days of the Bobby Bowdens loyalty club are over. $$$ trumps everything, IMHWPO.

I agree. Like it or not, every (football) coaching job in the ACC is a steppingstone job. For a couple of schools, like Clemson or FSU, there may be fewer jobs to step up to, but for those of us in the middle of the ACC pack, there is rarely a year without an attractive vacancy higher up the food chain.

That being said, even if you know you will lose him if he's successful, you still want him. What's the alternative?

  • Unc r Hypocrits Nov 30, 2012
    Sports Legend

I see Fedora as another up-and-comer. If he has quick, huge success at UNC, They will be looking for another coach sooner than they want, IMHWPO.

I don't know how full the till was when he left. So Miss did return 13 starters, but they brought in as his replacement a defensive coordinator who may not have been up to the job. They also had a brutal early season schedule that could have contributed to a crisis of confidence and morale. There are always too many variables to draw the kind of simplistic conclusion that tends to prevail on smack talk forums.

It doesn't make a d@*N who Tommy was looking for. He simply was making it clear that UNC copied someone by hiring a spread guy in response to an earlier post that said the wussies were copying UNC. Hovis' answer may have not been the one Tommy wanted, or expected, but it was CLEARLY not an indictment of Fedora, as you so stupidly claimed.

And, no, I don't have a problem with Ken, because his post makes no attempt to call Fedora a loser - in my opinion. Let him weigh in if he's around. Did his post call Fedora a loser, or not?

  • WolfPackInTheHizzouse Nov 30, 2012
    Sports Legend

Ken didn't mence his words... based on his logic, USM's recently fired football coach was clearly left with NOTHING to work with.

sounds like you have a problem with Ken.....

and, again... if you think Tommy was looking for "so miss" when he asked WHO unc was copying by hiring fedora (spread offense was CLEARLY what tommy was referring to), then you're even less intelligent than I originally thought....

    if that's even possible.

The 5th is CLEARLY an answer to the question it immediately follows, dumbazz! Even somebody with a degree from Fay State s/b able to figure that one out.

The 6th asks Ken's assessment of TB's opinion that the till was left bare. The administration at So Miss clearly disagrees, as it has decided that they hired the wrong man to replace Fedora, not that said man was left with nothing to work with.

Sit down, shut up, and smoke on that pudgy pansy!

  • WolfPackInTheHizzouse Nov 30, 2012
    Sports Legend

LOL, NO, the 5th post JUST says So Miss, but it's clearly in reference to the DILAPIDATED state the hat left their poor program in... as WHY would hovis say that unc was copying so miss' SPREAD offense??? they hired their coach, that's rather implied, and Tommy's not UNintelligent like yourself... so of course he wasn't looking for "so miss" as an answer to the question he posed.

    and

the 6th was ALSO a reference to the embarrassing state the hat left them in.

ken said 2-3 AFTER they left, you'll know whether or not you made a good hire... my guess is, if So. Miss fans/AD buy into a similar philosophy of Ken, then they don't need year 2 or 3 to determine they FAILED miserably with the "hat" hire.

you either buy-in to what Ken said, or you don't....

    your decision, mental dwarf.

I didn't say you were "talking smack", ken...

you're just being honest.... and, well... the hat HONESTLY left southern miss in a WORLD OF HURT, apparently.

there's really only one way to read-

"Will he leave behind a solid foundation for others to build on, or will they have to start over?"

that sentence is void of ambiguity.... and hardly changes from school to school.... what's different about State, than say... ANY other college???

He has powered up an offense, but he isn't one of the big names in football either. If they are going to pay 2-3 million for the coach at State, I would have thought of a bigger name. Who has heard of him previous to this mention of coming to State? I'll be honest; I haven't. Maybe he will be a great fit. Who knows.
