The Voice of Reality has arrived Basketball Reality
I am the voice of reality. I will post the reality version of any situation, regardless of team. I will start with Basketball.
NC StateNC State is overrated. Their mini run at the end of last year caused the overreaction. NC State has some very good individual players, however, they lack quality depth and team chemistry. In order for NC State to do damage in the post season they will need to come together as a team and define roles and responsiblities. Prediction: 2nd Rd loss in the NCAA
UNCUNC is also overrated. However, they do possess as much talent as NC State and have a HOF coach. Their team must consistently hit the outside shot if they want any chance of doing damage in the post season. They must also develop Paige and Davis as the starting and b/u PGs. Prediction: Sweet 16 loss
DukeDuke was underrated to begin the season. They have a HOF coach, one of the best ever, along with a great mixture of upper and lowerclassmen. As the other teams, they lack quality depth and must avoid key injuries to Plumlee or Curry. The only question is whether Duke can sustain the pace they are on currently, Coach K plays his stars a lot of minutes and Duke has a history of feast or famine in the post season.
The voice of reality would like to hear your thoughts.

Duke prediction: Final Four
RE: The Voice of Reality has arrived Basketball Reality
I think State's most glaring problem has been their lack of chemistry. They frequently look lost on defense, and multiple times per game there are turnovers or missed chances where one extra pass would result in an easy bucket, simply because the players are unaware of where the others are on the court. The lack of depth is also troubling, but less so than poor chemistry, currently. Losing de Thaey hurt, but won't be so bad if Lewis can be rotated in frequently and effectively. On the upside, State's transition game is fantastic! Unfortunately, if they don't play better defense and force turnovers/bad shots, they won't get a chance to run as much. If State can shore up their defense and work together better, they really do have the talent to be one of the best teams in the country. I think State makes the NCAA, but could be anywhere from a 2-seed to a 10-seed, depending on how well they improve their cohesiveness, and could be anything from a first-round loss to a final four team.
I disagree that North Carolina has as much talent as NCSU currently. I think Marcus Paige has a lot of upside, but I really can't tell what the "ceiling" is for the other players, McAdoo included. UNC is the biggest mystery out of these three teams. They could end up in the Elite 8, or end up in the NIT, and there's just no way to tell right now.
Duke was certainly underrated in the preseason, and they have defied expectations with how they have performed to date. However, I think the key word to focus on is
defied. I truly think they are playing at a level that cannot be sustained for the full season. I expect a "drought" somewhere for Duke, just due to lack of depth and Plumlee and Curry both being unable to maintain their ultra-high level of production all season. Still, Duke easily makes the tourney, anywhere from a 4-seed to a 1-seed, and at least makes the Sweet 16.
Those are my prognostications, but I'm historically more of a Nostra-dumba$% than Nostradamus.

Wow.. You certainly have a keen eye for the OBVIOUS...
Walk out onto a limb, why don't ya!!???
What team in America doesn't have to "come together" in March, if they plan to go far..??? Peaking in March far outweighs peaking in december... Every year.
Thanks for sharing your glaringly obvious comments.. Truly genius!

Haha, fair enough! There really isn't much else you can say about any team in early December. I think your assessment is probably the most accurate out of the bunch.

Sir I meant to impy that NC State must come together soon not in March. They had a mini run in March of last year but have not built on that momentum. They start Jr and Sr who should run like a well oiled machine, instead they have reverted to some old bad habits.

I agree with your assessment, Coach Gottfried was roundly criticized by the Alabama faithful for his team's lack of defensive intensity, the defensive effort is lacking at the moment. NC State has three or four players that can make a play on their own and often do, but they must learn how to do that within a structured offense to achieve success.

I wouldn't disagree with you about UNC, the X factor is coaching in that case. There are those that don't like Roy Williams or Coach K, however, both coaches have the ability to make teams overachieve.

RE: The Voice of Reality has arrived Basketball Reality
NC State was overrated per the preseason polls. I do believe they can and will work their way back into the top 15, maybe even top 10. They have been challenged early and often so far this year. I honestly believe the team chemistry of where it should be is ahead of schedule considering the top freshmen we got and the veteran players.
I see UNC struggling this year. They'll win there fair share of games, but I think they'll lose a couple they normally wouldn't. I believe they'll limp into the NCAA tournament but lossing no later than the 2nd round.
Duke is playing with a chip on their shoulder right now, and will do damage in the regular season. I don't see them making it any further than the elite 8 in the tournament though.
RE: The Voice of Reality has arrived Basketball Reality
Lol
The above one lost any remaining credibility it may have still had when it implied hat Roy could "coach up" anybody!!!
Name one team he EVER OVERachieved with..??
I'll wait... Thanks!
