Here is some reality for everyone to share. If either coach is successfull in the next one to three years he will leave. While state and unc are both good jobs they are not likely to be the final destination for either coach if the big schools call. Always has been, always will be.

My guess is that UT spoke with Fedora's agent and floated a salary number. Fedora says he isn't interested. They part ways with no real offer and no real rejection. But Fedora could think he turned down a possible huge payday. Stress on "possible". And if Fedora made that comment to his mentor that was tweeted then I figure it's just two coaches talking without worrying about the finer technicalities of if the offer was formal.
Same thing with Yow and basketball candidates. Those phantom offers never happened. But numbers were certainly discussed.
An example of a real offer and rejection is what the whole world just saw with my Colorado Buffs. Offer publicly on the table...offered publicly denied. Ouch.

No doubt. Tennessee was probably letting people know the dollar amounts that would be involved in the hire. Absolutely. But for the Hat to have turned down the money, he would have to be offered the money. And for him to be offered the money, he would have had to interview for it.

Now, he may have turned down the interview. But that is not the same as turning down the offer.

A conversation between an AD and a coaches agent discussing potential salary is not an interview. So, there was an "offer" on the table but Fedora would still have to 1) show up at the table and 2) land the job. He did neither. So yes, a big "offer" was floated but went nowhere because Fedora did not reciprocate. It would be a dereliction of duty if his agent didn't have that discussion if requested by UT's AD.
Some people want to this to be a world of absolutes but it's not. No different than when people accused Yow of "offering" and being "rejected" by XYZ basketball coaches last year.

The closest this came to being a rumor was people saying he would have been an ideal target for Wisconsin...

IF he had not already been signed up at NC State.

You can safely stop trying to get this rumor started now. We understand your feelings are hurt because you got punked over the Fedora to Tennessee rumor. At least THAT one had legs.

  • TruthBKnown Banned Again01 Dec 7, 2012

There is nothing curious about this.

First of all, there is not even a RUMOR of Doeren to Wiscy.

Secondly, what part of "a source close to Doeren" don't you understand? Dave is out on the recruiting trail. He doesn't even have a rumor to which to respond. But a couple of days ago, a source CLOSE TO DAVE did just that.

    It's closed.

It was funny even when you guys tried to start this rumor back when you did. It's even more funny to see you trying to start it AGAIN.

No, it looked like he was a candidate HAD HE NOT ALREADY BEEN TAKEN.

No doubt they'd have gone after him if he were still at NIU. But they know there is no point in even trying now. He wouldn't go, and they aren't going to pay the millions it would take to buy out his contract at State.

This was already covered TWO days ago.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/73486/dave-doeren-not-a-candidate-at-wisconsinExcerpt:

Looks like Yow low balled Doeren, or maybe he took a low salary intentionally???
I see that Alvarez will coach the bowl in order to give himself some time to find the right coach.

Doeren is from Kansas and spent four good years in Wisc, has a lot of contacts there. The buyout is peanuts. I think if Alvarez wants him, he can get him. I would not be surprised to see Doeren going back to a familiar place for a lot more money. He has no loyalty to NC State at this point.
