Here is some reality for everyone to share. If either coach is successfull in the next one to three years he will leave. While state and unc are both good jobs they are not likely to be the final destination for either coach if the big schools call. Always has been, always will be.

Why would he interview for a job that he had no interest in taking?

Back on topic. No way Doeren leaves State after one week.

My guess is that UT spoke with Fedora's agent and floated a salary number. Fedora says he isn't interested. They part ways with no real offer and no real rejection. But Fedora could think he turned down a possible huge payday. Stress on "possible". And if Fedora made that comment to his mentor that was tweeted then I figure it's just two coaches talking without worrying about the finer technicalities of if the offer was formal.
Same thing with Yow and basketball candidates. Those phantom offers never happened. But numbers were certainly discussed.
An example of a real offer and rejection is what the whole world just saw with my Colorado Buffs. Offer publicly on the table...offered publicly denied. Ouch.

Southern Miss =/= major experience, so take those last two items off the list right now.

What years was he Florda and Ok State OC?

No doubt. Tennessee was probably letting people know the dollar amounts that would be involved in the hire. Absolutely. But for the Hat to have turned down the money, he would have to be offered the money. And for him to be offered the money, he would have had to interview for it.

Now, he may have turned down the interview. But that is not the same as turning down the offer.

A conversation between an AD and a coaches agent discussing potential salary is not an interview. So, there was an "offer" on the table but Fedora would still have to 1) show up at the table and 2) land the job. He did neither. So yes, a big "offer" was floated but went nowhere because Fedora did not reciprocate. It would be a dereliction of duty if his agent didn't have that discussion if requested by UT's AD.
Some people want to this to be a world of absolutes but it's not. No different than when people accused Yow of "offering" and being "rejected" by XYZ basketball coaches last year.
