I'm not joking. I believe this possibility was first mentioned by Seth Davis. Kelly re-injured the same injury that ended his season last year.

Are you seriously suggesting that a near 7-footer that can hit college-length threes like Kelly does will never see a day in the NBA? Sure.

I know that you're joking ? An if Kelly does decide to have surgery, that would not just be the ending of his college career, because he will never see a day in the NBA. Simply, because he is too slow and he only score from the outside.

Right now, State and Duke are the two best teams in the ACC. No one knows what the future holds; injuries can really affect teams, but I see Duke and State as the best in the ACC.

So who will be they team to beat come Thursday morning? I am guessing it will still be State and Duke.

Kelly might not be back soon. I've heard a rumor that he MAY even opt for surgery (which would end his season) in order to be ready for the next NBA draft.

    "what chatter"????

like where the poster said, "The win over Duke should give the Pack loads of confidence. I think talent-wise they are better than most of the teams in the conference and Gottfried has shown he can coach ....... the rematch in Duke will be a big one. A sweep of the Devils would be an amazing feat for the 2nd year coach"???

is that the "chatter" you're referring to???

REALITY (NO bragging, just stating that which is factual), is troublesome for hole fans.

    as per usual.

Some of this chatter is reminiscent of all the talk of the Pack "controlling their own destiny" after beating FSU in football. Though technically true, the bulk of the season was still in front of them.
    Long way to go.

That's why they play the games rather than count the predictions. Let's revisit this question in a week. It's too early.

You wish. I doubt it TBK. And Panthers fan. Still have over 14-15 games in the ACC to play it out. Let's just give it to State and not play anymore games. Heh. Heh. Duke will rise up. Miami is well coached, and they make teams play their game. UNC may surprise some with all of their AA's in spite of Roy. Anyone that can say that any team can win it right now....you don't know Jack.

Are you serious; or is this a pund on State? It's hard to read you sometimes. State will lose a few soon. Mark it down.

Duke will be back soon. Miami with their slow down offense will be there too. MD and UVA didn't deliver. WF beat UVA. UNC will rise up. State will lose soon. According to the postings. They should be higher. State has climbed the latter. Be humble.

  • VT1994Hokie Jan 14, 2013

Kelly will be back soon. Had Howell been out, or Brown, or Leslie...what could have been the outcome? State would be singing a different tune. Quit bragging so much. It's going to bite you soon. I have been on here since 07. The most boostful and hateful postings come from which fan base?

  • VT1994Hokie Jan 14, 2013

FSU was a relatively even matchup for UNC because their strength is their backcourt and small forward/wing players. Their guards are smaller than UNCs (except for Paige) and most of their perimeter players prefer to stay on the perimeter. Their inside game is raw/young and inexperienced. Look at how badly UNC outrebounded them. I think both Duke and State will destroy FSU's weak, young inside game on both sides of the floor.

FSU recently has had alot of success against Duke by being rough and physical on defense. But this year's team doesn't really play that style, which is probably why they've been fairly inconsistent. They also have a freshman point guard.

True, it was a good win I think. Although, I'm not entirely convinced FSU is a juggernaut. But I'm sure they're tough to beat at home.

Carolina needs to win some games between now and when we play. Otherwise, you're just going to hurt our RPI. ;)

Regarding the tourney winner being the conference champion, i'd provide the link but I'm posting from my phone on a plane right now and about to take off.

It's clearly explained in the bylaws in a PDF that can be found on theacc.com.

Whoever finishes first in the regular season may be called Regular Season Champions, but, to me, that just means you are the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Heckuva season to do that well in league play. The winner of the ACC Tournament is the ACC Champion for that year.

    Back on topic.

The win yesterday may well serve as the springboard. I.E., now they KNOW they are as good as anyone when they play their game. Just have to avoid injuries to their top 6.

Don't know which thread it was and not going to waste my time looking for it, but you took issue with me calling UNC "ACC Champs" and said something along the lines of, "Florida State has a banner that says you are wrong." Surely you remember...it was within the past two weeks, I'm sure.

TBK, TB, see my thread "A serious poll for State fans." Both of you seem to have reasonable opinions on the issue. I'm interested in hearing SAC's opinion, given that just a week or two ago he was downplaying the significance of the "regular season championship" but now, after State's win against Duke, he seems to be very excited about the prospect of "winning the ACC."

I think I saw somewhere recently that the ACC actually started recognizing the regular season champion about 10 years ago.

I've been meaning to look into that.

It actually is a worthy accomplishment, probably better than just winning the tournament. It's just not a "real" championship except in our minds (unless the ACC has started recognizing it).

I, for one, would NOT want a trophy if we are Regular Season Champs. To me, the winner of the tournament is ACC Champs, period. DES started that "Regular Season Champions" stuff, presumably because it took away some of the luster when UNC would finish first in the regular season but didn't win the tournament. A great PR move, IMO, because it highlighted an accomplishment, which helped recruiting. Just my 2 cents.

Yup, if. Given that UNC is currently the defending ACC champs, and that we've finally started to play as a team, anything is possible. I don't expect UNC to win the ACC this year, but I wouldn't rule us out after three games either.

If UNC doesn't win the ACC regular season title, I want State to win it. Mostly because I'd be curious to see what mental gymnastics a lot of State fans do to justify their "ACC Regular Season Champs" claim when they've been criticizing Carolina for doing so for so long now.

Well, obviously. You can't beat Duke, then Maryland, and lose a WTH game to VT. But there is not as much pressure on you to win the lesser games. I'm talking about winning another pretty big game, this time on the road.

I'm going to be the first to say it.

I think the Maryland game is even more important than the Duke game. I say that because we have won big games before and then wilted. To take the next step, we have to be able to come back after a big win, and beat a very good team like Maryland without having the letdown. THAT is something we have not done in over 25 years probably. Win the big one, and then keep on winning while you have the target on your backs.
