Indiana goes down. After Maryland and Clemson wins, do we crack top 10?

I think 14 is about right. Coulda been higher. Seems like I read where there is a team ranked ahead of us (Creighton?) and their best win is over the 106th RPI team or something like that. And our teams have the same record.

But I don't care. We're reasonably high up in the polls. Keep winning and the polls will take care of themselves. Lose and it doesn't matter anyway.

You may be correct that we are not top 10 on a continuous basis. But we certainly were in Saturday's game. I was sick and had to miss it, but my son and his friend sure got a treat. I am not a high roller, but I think I will give a few extra bucks to Wolfpack Club this year. I like the direction we are going.

If you're talking about the number of "losses in a row" to 'ol Roy...yes....13 is exactly right.

Indiana hadn't played anything close to Duke's SOS when they lost. That's why they fell alot and Duke won't fall as much. As I said, the whole body of work is taken into account.

  • TruthisKnown Jan 14, 2013

Indiana sure fell a lot more than 1 spot after their loss! But of course this is "dook". And coach Kiwi! ROFL!

State kollege should have been 12 or > and dook should have dropped to 3-4 or <.

He isn't gone for the year. He's only out 2-4 weeks. Polls are based on the entire body of work, not just each team's last game. I'm not saying Duke should stay #1, I believe if you lose to someone ranked below you then you fall at least one spot.

Why should they take that into account and rank them higher then they should be because of it? If Dookie doesn't have Kelly then how are they a top three team?

Some Dookies cried so much about how wounded they were without him, apparently Dookie shouldn't even be top 10 without Kelly. Certainly not top 3, because they're not according to how handicapped some Dookies think they are without him.

Dookie shouldn't get a pass just because they might be a better if, or when, Kelly returns.

  • TVs_Deceit Jan 14, 2013

One of the more interesting scenarios with all the losses towards the top.

If Duke remains #1 as in the CBS Poll, that would be interesting because it would mean they think Duke is still the best team even without Kelly.

Frankly, I don't think they like to move teams a lot in one week, so it's likely State would at most rise 5-7 spots [15-13]. However, the way State's consistently improving, along with number of teams ahead of them that lost, I think a strong case could be made for 12-9th.

I really don't see them making State a top 10 again this soon, but I'm open for surprises. I think they should be at least 12th.. but I'm going to say they'll only give them 14th.

Duke and Michigan slide down one spot each and Louisville should be #1.

I think State will move up all the way up to number 10 ....... they never trailed against Duke in the 2nd half and they played perhaps their best half of the season as well. Illinois WAS number 12, I forsee them moving past that at least.

Michigan loss complicates things. Do Duke and Michigan stay 1 and 2 with one loss each? If so, do State and Ohio State move up significantly? Duke certainly played well in there loss. I am revising my earlier quess up to 12-14 range. Go Pack.

I would normally expect 14-15 with a big win like this.

But I believe the pollsters have been holding back waiting for State to prove themselves with a signature win. Before the Duke win, we had won 9 in a row and barely cracked the top-20. I think this win might just give us a little extra boost when combined with the other 9 wins that led up to it.

    I'm guessing 11-12.

Depending on which poll you look at there were 8 or 9 teams that have lost since the last poll.

AP: #1 Duke lost to NCSU
#2 Michigan plays #15 Ohio State (someone will lose today)
    #4 Arizona lost to Oregon
    #8 Minnesota lost to Indiana
    #10 Missouri lost to Mississippi
#12 Illinois lost to Minnesota and Wisconsin
#17 Notre Dame lost to Connecticut #19 Georgetown lost to Pittsburgh. Coaches Poll adds #20 Cincy losing to Notre Dame

Why all the talk about rushing the court? This was the most anticipated game in years in Raleigh in my opinion and the way they won was very different than usual. I watched the recording of the game over last night and every time Duke made a run, they calmly answered---hell they reminded me of Duke. The answers came from a few different players. And then the free throws at the end--normally a miss or two would have us all on the edge of our seats and Duke would have that last heave to spoil the party. But not on this day. The crowd actually got to line up to rush the court with over a minute on the clock. I give credit to that unusually raucous crowd and to that really mature win. I only wish I could have been there to rush the court myself.

When I saw them lining up to rush the court, I thought to myself "Oh Lord, no. Please act like you belong." I didn't get my wish, of course. And if that wasn't bad enough, they then proceeded to carry it to an even more embarrassing level. Seriously, I don't think I've seen that kind of a celebration after a Superbowl! Think of the message you're sending to Duke - You are so so so so good and we are so so so so inferior to you that we're going to have the biggest celebration ever if we upset you. It ruined what was otherwise a most enjoyable game. smh.

As for the topic of this thread, the rankings are meaningless - Just keep winning. I'm worried about a post-party meltdown against Maryland.

13 to 15. Hopefully this signature win will get some credit over tied records. Another question is where does Duke drop to. I am guessing about 7. The conference needs to have 2 or more top ten.

as of now, 4 top 25 teams besides duke lost this weekend, 8th,10th, 12th and 17th ranked teams...if you look at it that way, the Pack would move up 3-4 spots, at best...but who knows how the voters will rate the duke victory, i've seen teams move 10 spots, or more, before....some teams have dropped from the middle teens to out of the polls, so a 10 spot jump by the Pack wouldnt be crazy..gotta beat the terps and make this victory count

  • mrwufabc Jan 13, 2013

I think we'll move up to 15. That written, unc-CHeat ought to move back into our old slot at 20 b/c people will confuse our win with them. Much like the week before when ESPN advertised their game with our ranking.

I'm thinking 15 is about right. Okla St. still lingers in my head and MD is going to be a tough matchup. U have to look at the BC and GT game where struggled. Our problem is simply this: State plays to the level of their competitor.

    #9 in the nation!
Something great has happened to this team just before the Duke game. All prior games were played to win, but at best, 3/4 steam. We can all agree talent is deserving of the preseason 6th ranking. However, the lack of congruency and blending were evident very early and we could see that possibly this team could struggle late into March or they could find that magic amongst the superior talent that rises above all of the greatest teams out there.
I'm predicting this team will be set apart from what the Wolfpack Nation has come to expect in our history of infrequent major victories. We as Wolfpack fans sometimes feel we should go from here with an attitude of "don't get your hopes up too high".
For me, I believe these guys and the "Gottfather" have got it together now and I'm floating on a big red cumulus cloud for the rest of the season!
