Maryland blew a 12 point lead at home against FSU recently, and I think State has a more talented team than the Seminoles. I expect Maryland to come out strong in this one since they are at home and need a conference win to get back into the race, but the Pack have an edge "talent-wise" at every position IMHO.

Where do you think that water came from that Curry slipped on? THAT, my friend, is called preparation and perfect timing! Couldn't have been choreographed by Hollywood any better! It worked to perfection. We won, didn't we? Yep. Sweat. The little things that help State win games!!!

What do you call BC's building?

And State has played AT Michigan, even if that was a loss.

And UConn in MSG was practically a home game for the Huskies.

It's not as if State has not experienced plenty of road games already.

    Excellent point.
The NCAA is also looking at state kollege and may do sanctions. Apparently a lot of players from dook complained about the excessive sweating by Howell and did not want to get close to him resulting in all his rebopunds. They also think his sweating may have led to Currys injury from the slick floor. This could cause a distraction for the team.

Not sure NC State will lose to Maryland, but it definitely wouldn't shock me. Especially after the parades and celebrations all week after beating Duke. National TV/Radio interviews have probably taken up more time than gameplanning for UMD. But can you really blame them? I doubt most State fans would even care if they lost to UMD, its more about beating Duke and UNC.

Why the odds makers have us as a 2 point favorite is surprising. Granted MD has shot the ball so poorly the last game and a half. We have played fair defense and still rebound better than most. If we can hit 40%+ from the floor, it should be a good game. Fingers crossed on this one.

Maryland is due to win again. They have slipped lately. Heck. I had them in the top 4-5 in the ACC two weeks ago. Who the heck knows? I give State the win again. If they are close to the team like last Saturday, they win. Leslie needs another strong game in order to win.

This game is a toss up to me. We haven't seen how this team plays after a big win. First 5 minutes will tell all. A 2 point line is essentially even to me.

It's not dumb to post it here. It's an article about NC State basketball on a national media website. Whether you agree with it or not isn't my problem, it's certainly worth a discussion especially considering the low level of discussions that do go on on this site. I actually do agree with some of his descriptions of State fans like "their fans haven't been so overwhelmingly positive and sunny in years and years". And the "hangover effect" is certainly credible. If you look at the last time State beat Duke in 2010 - with players that are on this team - they went up to Maryland and lost the next game.

I don't expect a loss but I certainly expect a dog fight. Maryland is a matchup problem for us and we'll be playing in front of a sold out Comcast Center. Hopefully we can find a way to keep Maryland off of the glass and create some turnovers to get out in transition. Do that, and we walk out with a hard fought W.

No doubt I would quote the great Admiral Ackbar in describing this game. It's a trap!

Hangover from a big win, going on the road to what will likely be lifeless arena to play a good team looking for a resume building win. This will surely be a game to test Gott's motivating and coaching. All that said, I feel good about their chances...more so than in a long time.

Unless the discussion and bend of the trend seeps into the psyche of the team, this is merely one of the funkier streaks in college hoops, one that's bound to turn around if Gottfried continues on the track he's built. If the Wolfpack do indeed lose to Maryland, this pattern will have almost nothing to do with it.

I will say, though, that this tendency is so purely State-ish. There is always something about the program that allows its fans to wallow, and even amid this season of reclaim, we've found a tiny reason for anxiety.

Don't shoot, I'm just the messenger.

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/blog/eye-on-college-basketball/21558337/why-nc-state-fans-should-expect-a-loss-wednesday-at-maryland

You could make the argument that North Carolina State's fevered home win Saturday over Duke was the defining moment of college hoops' season so far. And even if it wasn't, it's clearly top-three.

Wolfpack fans are woofing happy now, and really most of us are pleased for that quirky sect of a fan base, which has waited so long for times like these. The team is looking good, has 14-2 record to go with its No. 14 ranking in the AP poll, and in general their fans haven't been so overwhelmingly positive and sunny in years and years.

That said, a minor setback could be coming. The Wolfpack have a road game against enigmatic Maryland Wednesday night. NC State is no doubt better than the Terps, but signs signal that Mark Turgeon's team is going to hold serve at home the same way Mark Gottfried's guys did over the weekend.

The Raleigh News & Observer's Joe Giglio ran back the Wolfpack's data following wins against their two rivals, Duke and North Carolina. Turns out, State has 14 wins in the past 20 years against the two brands of blue. The previous 13 wins have resulted in a 1-12 next-game record. Say it with me: hangover effect.

Here's the chart of the damage done, per Giglio. Note that five of the losses have come to the Turtles.

Something I always keep in mind: For as interesting and fun as these kind of trends and statistical nuggets are, they have little true impact. Most of State's players weren't even in kindergarten when this Duke/UNC hangover trend began. It has no real bearing on how NC State will play Wednesday. These players don't carry the images of all the losses in their heads. State has three seniors who were part of the 2010 win over Duke/loss to Maryland, but it's not like they were factors.
