I have shown you that State has historically suffered the hangover effect after wins over Duke or UNC, year after year despite changes in coaching and players. So, yes, there is an obvious trend here, and you can't deny it. I've also showed you that State has historically suffered against Maryland despite changes in coaches and players. Now, look, I hope they give Maryland a nice bon voyage present of a major ***-kicking, but to deny that there is no such thing as a hangover effect and that State seems to succumb to it more often than not is completely ridiculous.
You do realize that State didn't invent the concept of a hangover game, right?
Most teams suffer an emotional letdown after a high-energy, emotional win.
The difference in those years is that when State won the big game, they were still a bad-to-mediocre team. They had a hangover AND they were just not very good.
This year, it's pretty clear that we're a very good team. Now we may still suffer from a hangover (who knows?) but we won't lose because we're a bad team.
Am I the only State fan that isn't very worried about this game? I want it just as much as I wanted the Duke win. But I think it will be an easier win for us. So I'm just not all that worried. Of course we can lose. We can lose any game on our schedule if we don't show up. But I think if we play our game (not over our heads, but not down to the competition, either) I think we win this one fairly easily.
Your last sentence said it. In our first 2 conference games, we DID play down to our opponents level until late in the game. Then we picked it up and won. Barely at BC. I'm afraid if we do that tonight, or any other night, it's gonna come back to bite us in the behind.
You're darn tootin' I'm calling them out. Because you, me, and everyone else knows they'd have been all over this thread like white on rice had State won last night.- Posted by Hans
Since the 1992-1993, State is 1-12 in ACC games following a regular season victory over Duke or UNC.- Posted by Hans
Now you see why I'm worried about tonight's game.
Different players, different coach, different season, different RPI/SOS.- Posted by jmwbrd
Live in the present not the past.
If you had asked and been declined for a date by 12 females, would you stop asking females and accept a life of loneliness or would you keep trying? Quitters never win and winners never quit!
