It was a game of two halves the way I saw it. State ran the floor hard, passed the ball, and moved the ball to the open shooter. Loads of fast baskets from a missed shot or rebound led to the beat down in the 1st half. They didn't play with similar intensity in the 2nd half. UNC creeped back in, and made it a game. State came close to blowing 28 points. Too much talent to allow this IMO. Gott needs to give some a few more minutes. Build the bench. Build it with a few minutes here and there.

Agree, but that was only part of the problem. Carolina went through a LONG stretch where they either didn't miss, or they missed, but put back the rebound for a score. That had nothing to do with State not attacking on offense. That just hindered State's ability to keep matching Carolina's scoring.

That is true & they are still Carolina.

I was actually glad to see Carolina play so well in the second half. They scored on nearly every offensive possession, and State scored enough to hang on for the win. I think State will benefit from this kind of win more than they would have with the 40 point win that appeared to be in the making midway through the second half.

Carolina is getting better. I'm not too excited at the thoughts of playing them later, after more improvement, and in their building.

State put on a clinic in the 1st half. One of the best teams in transition that I have seen this entire year. They need to play more guys for game experience. I saw this against Wake when a few got into foul trouble. A few minutes for some would help them down the line.

It IS funny how sometimes you match up well against certain teams. Glad we got them only once this year. In Raleigh.

Congrats to the Pack - your guys played a really good game. I think the atmosphere was terrific - fans amped up, but the work was done on the court, by your players, and they did what they were supposed to do - beat the Heels. Thanks to all the State fans who are gracious in their victory.

an interesting fact regarding the miami/State rivalry...both sendek and lowe(yes, even lowe!) had winning records against miami...with Gott, miami was swept last year....miami is one of those teams that State always plays well, for whatever reason

Yep. As Ovies pointed out on WRAL this morning, when we got the 28 point lead, we started settling for jumpshots. Should have kept attacking inside. THAT, IMHWPO, is what led to UNC's run to cut the lead to nerve-racking suspense near the end.

Congrats to Tommy, wolfbites, buckets, Hans and the good State fans on these boards. Your team played hard from the start. I'm looking forward to the next game in the Dean Dome.
I think Paige. and Johnson were totally shaken by the crowd and couldn't focus on their jobs. This game will help them by giving them the experience they will need when they play over at Duke. The two early fouls on McAdoo really hurt the Heels. I thought Tokoto played a good game with his defense and he did score 10 pts. Again congrats to the Pack, and we'll see you in the DD.

Wow...you guys were up for this one. You guys jumped on us early and didn't let up until later when you let us save face.

If you guys can just imagine every opponent left on your schedule is UNC or Duke...you guys should make the final four.

I'll be pulling for you guys to beat Miami...we can't let them win the ACC

    Go Pack

Congrats Tommy and congrats to all the State fans and the team. I think the fans had a lot to do with the win, the players fed off of that energy. You could see it in their faces when the crowd got revved up. Looking forward to the game at the DD, should be a good one.

Go Pack! Certainly glad the hill became to big to overcome 'cause the Heels did not stop trying to get over it. The best team won tonight. Hopefully they will decide to bring that intensity every game. If they do this could be a fun March, but there is too much ball to be played to think that far down the road. Let's get past Tuesday!

Hey at least we came back and made it interesting. It aint over and we aint winning but 28 down to 9 down is something impressive

  • DooksucksV3 Jan 26, 2013

7 minutes to go and obvious State will win the game.
No excuses, State came ready to play and rattled our young players early. After that it was a slaughter.
If State played like they did against Dook and UNC, they would probably be the #1 team in the country.

Congrats on breaking the losing streak.
