Purvis did a horrible job trying to play point. He is a set shot shooter and driver and not a ball handler and distributor. He is also selfish. Even Ovies said he was not cut out for point at all in his first true article he wrote about the wolfers today!

In the last 4:22 of the game last night, the wolffies had 1 point and zero field goals with Purv running the offense.

Gotta hand it to ol' pottyScotty, he sure knows his adopted team's personnel.

I'm not going to speak for Tommy, but I'd dare say you fall into the "sad display of character" category. You could count on one hand the number of adults who behave themselves in a respectable fashion while attempting to talk about sports around here, and given your vast number of "Uncle Bobo" threads, State Kollege threads, and flooding our forum with useless posts about the whereabouts of our high-profile posters, you're not counted among that group. Sorry kiddo. Should you decide to improve your lot in life, you could start by not posting topics so stoopid that you are the sole respondent.

If Purvis turns out to be State's main ball handler next year, they will be in a world of hurt. That means they would have struck out on two consecutive PG recruits, Lewis and Barber, including one viewed as a potential one and done lottery pick. They'd be lucky to finish in the top half of the league in that scenario.

When I think of Purvis play I see someone going in uncontrolled half the time throwing up a shot, shooting a set 3 point shot since he is not the focus as he would be next year and someone who is obviously aLL About Himself!!! He is not going to be a good point guard. Count it.

And Lawn Boy he gets minutes but NOT as a point guard dimwit!!! LOLOL

I've seen Rodney run their sets with Lo B on the court at the same time.

    He's rather comfortable with it.

He's just not being asked to do it much. Don't underestimate his strength with the ball.

  • Ken D. Jan 29, 2013

Purvis also has an assist to turnover ratio of 1.1 compared with Brown's 2.1.

He averages 1 assist for every 17.2 minutes of PT. Brown is at 4.8 minutes. Brown's numbers are good, not great. Purvis' numbers are well below average for a point guard. Carolina's returning ball handlers aren't doing as well as they were expected to do, but they are doing as well or better than Purvis. I don't expect Purvis to handle the ball much next season. It's not his strength.

Lewis has a long ways to go to be counted on for heavy minutes...and he is a liability on defense.

Purvis ain't getting much experience with Brown logging 34+ mins per game at the helm.

I think Lewis can handle the point and with Anthony Barber coming in they shouldn't have a big problem, but I agree on worrying about the inside. Howell will be hard to replace. He has developed over a 4 year period.
As for the draft, Brown and Leslie will both be lottery picks. Maybe Brown might go before Leslie. I'm sure both will get plenty of advice from people who know.

    Rarely nervous, Rodney Purvis.

He's performed quite well when asked to run the point this year... Which has happened against strong competition, too. And, another yr of strength and conditioning will do Lewis well.

But, I'm not sure either one will prove to be as capable as The Cat Barber!!

I'm far more worried about front court depth next year... Just like this year.

When I asked my question, I genuinely didn't know whom SAC was referring to. I still don't. I haven't heard anything official about Brown, and while some mock drafts have him going late first round that's no guarantee he'll leave. Even Leslie, projected as an early second round pick, could fool people and return for a senior year. That's less likely, IMO, as it's hard for me to see how his play would improve much by staying.

If those two return, State would certainly be a contender next year, especially if they could add Randle to their recruiting class. But right now, it's way too soon to be making any predictions about State's prospects for next year. Compared to the recent past, this seems to be a relatively weak draft year, so more players might be tempted to come out. That means lots of question marks.

You normally know everything.....why is this any different? You constantly analyze potential, (like you're some expert), and talk about why Carolina players will be and should be leaving early....why not discuss State players? You are truly the hypocrite of hypocrites and just as phony as ever and your logic or lack thereof is as amazing as ever!

    LOL.

Purvis is rarely asked to handle the ball -- much less run the offense.

Carolina brought back a lot more than that this year. How's that working out for them when it comes to contending for the top of the league? If State (or anybody else) could reload with three or four lottery picks every year, a la Kentucky, the loss of four starters could be managed. But even Kentucky is struggling this year.

Next year could well be a rebuilding year for State, even if they have some nice building blocks to start with.

  • SpartanDude Jan 29, 2013

    Simple answer: 2

Warren and Purvis remain from the 6. State has an interesting group coming in next year and should still be contenders for top of the league.

Of course it will turn into an excuse right before the season....then ALL wolfers will openly point out how you lost everyone.
