I was not far off in my predictions 4-7 weeks ago. A bumpy ride for all of us.

The best thing that could happen to us is for Wood to be out of the line up and play Warren and Vany more

They'll beat Clemson unless they just fall apart. I think they are gonna hit the floor with intensity. Hope Wood's okay and didn't have post-game probs from that fall he took. State needs all its shooters.

It starts today. I look at Clemson as a big turning point. Almost a must win situation.

Think we'll start seeing good things from State rest of the season.

We have 8 very winnable games left... but in conference ball I think winning 6 of those 8 is more reasonable. UNC and FSU at home seem our toughest remaining... but I see no obvious reason to expect either to be a loss.

I think we will be well positioned for the acc tournament. The neutral site should ultimately play to our advantage IMO.

We still have a shot at a good seeding in the ncaas if we play it out strong.

Just have to wait and see.... The "top" of the rankings has proven a dangerous place to be this year.... no team seems destined to rule, and teams have dropped out and come back in with some frequency. In other words, part of where we will be depends on what everyone else does.... and this is proving to be a rather unusually unpredictable year in that respect, IMO.

Carolina has the toughest Future SoS in the ACC. I also see @Duke and @Miami as likely losses. That would mean only losing two other games. Duke in CH and @Maryland are tossups; another three games, UNC a slight favorite (2:1). Not much room for error for any of those three teams.

State has a big advantage schedule-wise. I can't see UNC winning in Miami, and I can't see them beating Duke. The games against State and Virginia are going to be huge for Carolina.

State will do just enough to MAYBE get into the big dance if Brown doesn't ocme back soon....if he comes back, though, and Scott Wood is okay, then they might win get in a little easier..lot of "might's" and "maybe's" though...

Mostly agree with others in this surprisingly on-topic thread. As I've been saying for weeks, I think State, Carolina, and Virginia will be battling for ACC third place with roughly 11-7 records. 12-6 is possible for any of the three, unfortunately 10-8 is too.

The ACC Tourney becomes important, need at least a win or two there if 11-7 or 10-8.

An 11-7 ACC probably gets State an NCAA 6-8 seed, UNC a 7-9, UVA maybe nothing. A 10-8 finish pushes State and Carolina into danger, too.

Come on Hans, just like Ken said, you must be a state fan that does not like its fans, coaches, administration, or players. Never heard you utter one decent thing about your team in my time on these boards, just making an observation, but if you want to get all defensive about it, like those two stooges, go right ahead.

If you want to be as dumb as the likes of the two stooges here, that's up to you. Not sure why anyone would, though.

Never underestimate State's ability to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory and lay an egg in a must-win, should-win game. I've seen it too many times over the years.

Not sure where you get that I'm a Carolina fan. I guess Hans is just one of those State fans who likes everything about his team except its players, its coaches, its fans and its administration.

They come out flat every single game. There's no reason at this point to think that's going to change.

Lewis' emergence is a silver lining in the cloud of Brown's injury. But I wonder what effect Brown's return will have on team chemistry. Lewis can only play point. Brown can play at the SG position as well. If you give Lewis more PT at point, will that cause Brown to be less effective at point? It's possible that if he doesn't play enough minutes at point, Brown might not get into, and stay in, the kind of groove he had when playing 30+ minutes at one position.

I think Gottfried should consider starting Lewis at point and Brown at SG and let one of the current starters on the wings come off the bench. A seven man rotation with both Warren and Purvis getting strong minutes off the bench could be a formidable rotation at tournament time.

^totally agree gunny, With the emrgence of Tyler that adds some desperately needed depth in the back court. The kid play, hands down. You lose three but in the long run you gain confidence in a youngster who can start to bring more to the table for a team with little bench. Hinestly, they just looked uninterested in the first and it cost them.

State will finish strong. They have played the toughest part of their schedule. I agree that the Clemson game is a must win, and they will win. Clemson looked downright awful last night. It was a road game for them @ UVA, but they couldn't buy a bucket;I think State will start a win streak with the Clemson game.

State will be fine, how many did they have last year, 11 or 12 losses? Can only help get more experience for tyler lewis. Zo will be back and they will right the ship.

  • gamnell Feb 8, 2013

11-7 or 10-8. I didn't see last nights game, but it sounds like State came out flat. They may go deep in the ACC tourney, but you can't come out flat in the NCAA's against hungry teams.

The schedule is in their favor now. If Brown comes back 6 or 7 wins is certainly within reach. Right now they just need to get a win at Clemson. That game is a MUST win and i hope they are thinking the same thing.

11-7 sounds about right.. I think we play in the ACC championship game in the tourny and make it to Atlanta! GO PACK!!

  • foghat001 Feb 8, 2013

Yeah, I think State's going. In the 2nd half after they got organized last nite, they played pretty good - room for improvement of course. Not so sure about Carolina. We'll see.

  • PanthersFan45 Feb 8, 2013

I think they will make the NCAA tourney since they do have at least 1 signature win (Over Duke in 1st meeting), but they need to get it together and win some more games. I hate sounding like they could wind up with 9 or 10 losses, but the way they've played on the road they'll probably reach that. In the end they'll probably be an 8 or 9 seed in the NCAA's ..... Brown will be back and they will win more games. I'm not writing them off. The ACC regular season crown will not happen, but there's alot of basketball to be played yet.

i thought they would finish at 13-5 or 12-6 before the season started. i agree that 11-7 is more realistic now.

i really wish painter hadn't transferred but he did what he had to do for family's sake. he's avg 12 and 8 for old dominion right now...good for him.

As much as you are hoping it will happen, State will not miss the NCAA tournament. They, along with your favorite team, should both get in.

  • Hans Feb 8, 2013

8 very winnable games left. Will State get to 20 wins? Will they win out? Or will they sink like a Scott Wood brick thrown into Lake Wheeler and miss the NCAA tournament?
