Thoughts on NC State basketball
OK, here are my thoughts on State basketball. We are on a 3-game losing streak. It stinks to lose, but we knew this was going to be a tough stretch. But the season isn't over. There are a lot of games left to be played. I normally would think, "here we go again" after such a losing streak. This year I don't think that way. We still have a lot of talent, and yes, we still have a good team. Don't give up on the Pack just yet. Except for the Duke loss, every conference loss was a last-minute (or last SECOND) heart breaker.
It's easy to get down on the team when they're on a stretch like this. But don't. Not yet. This is not the same caliber of team that we've had over the last 20+ years. This team can and will do more damage. We will make more noise. We already knew Lorenzo Brown was the player we could least afford to lose. And even without him, we have been very competitive. Last night, we fought back without him, and we also had Howell on the bench with five fouls (no blaming the refs, either. He earned those fouls...) And yet, we were within 8 and had the ball with a chance to cut into the lead even more with a minute left. And this was not against Austin Peay. This was AT Duke. The team did not give up.
I look at it like this. We hate losing, but it is what it is. One benefit from this stretch is Tyler Lewis is getting a lot of playing time. And he is playing WELL. Lorenzo will be back soon enough, and he'll have a very qualified (and slightly experienced) backup for the home stretch.
State can still finish in the top four in the ACC and get a first-round bye in the tournament. There are plenty of goals left to accomplish. I'm not down on the Pack. I'm waiting for them to TAKE OFF or EXPLODE on somebody now. We still have a team no one wants to face. I'm looking forward to the ACC and NCAA tournaments with this team. They seem to play their best on the big stage.
Let's move forward, and start our next winning streak on Sunday at Clemson on Sunday.

After 20 years it's hard to feel positive any more. NCSU has sucked the positive out of me. It's the DUKE/UNC show! Move on to something more productive in life!

Excellent post TBK, thank you for not blaming the refs...someone go tell Old Drink that there is not a ref conspiracy out to get State.

State fans, don't dwell on the recent losses. Remember, you are getting Lorenzo Brown back and when that happens, you now have a much better backup point guard and depth that wasn't there before the injury.

I agree. The one good thing to come out of the ankle injury to Zo is the emergence of Tyler Lewis. Had heard great things about this kid and never saw it until the last 2 games. I believe this stretch with Lewis at the point will play out great when and if State has a tourney run.

nope there aren't close calls you are right.....UNC gets all the calls..we enjoy it.
