Krispy Kreme Challenge 2013

RE: Krispy Kreme Challenge 2013

i was there...it was freezing. my tropical asian genes aren't designed for such low temps. i saw a couple of ppl wearing duke headwear during the pre-race milling around the belltower.

i only ate 3 donuts...i was saving room for brunch at fountain dining hall. i'm glad i didn't test my stomach, the barf all over the finish line was gross. but it did smell like sweet glazed donuts so it wasn't as bad as it could've been.

The internals are feeling much better now. At least I never tossed any cookies. Gotta say, the State folks are awesome for putting this on. I know UNC does a race in the spring and I wish Duke had the type of numbers to be able to support something like this. I did see quite a few Duke people there today and a couple UNC people. The one guy wearing the UNC football #26 jersey had me laughing. I didn't get heckled once for wearing the Duke logo which was great.

Ok, after reading these posts, I won't be hankering for doughnuts anytime soon. Btw, who buys/pays for the KKs for this fundraiser? Does KK donate them? Always wondered.

glad to hear the GI system is back to being combat effective. do you know the details of the spring run? i'd be interested in doing that. maybe they can make it the bojangles challenge...i think i'd rather eat buttered biscuits than donuts.

i didn't see the guy with the gio jersey...there was a pretty good spattering of unc and duke fans in the crowd with a couple others representing other schools. i some wearing ecu, michigan, ohio state, va tech, clemson, and uva. in that kind of setting the heckling gets set aside. although i did see the spartans stalking two cuties wearing unc shirts while in phalanx lol.

yeah, krispy kreme donates all of the pastries. i believe volunteers go pick up most of the boxes from other nearby stores and then brings them to the race. i was amazed at the stacks and stacks of donut boxes sitting on tables at the donut area.

you should come out next year TB...all proceeds go to the nc children's hospital. there were even folks out there walking their dogs. some fool lady had her dog all the way out on a retractable leash in the middle of the crowd, it's a wonder no one got tangled or tripped up in that thing.

That sounds like a great cause - how long is the race?

RE: Krispy Kreme Challenge 2013

I participated with some work teammates in the KKChallenge a couple years ago. Starting at the Bell Tower in Hillsborough St, we ran the two miles to the KK shop on Person St then scarfed down a dozen donuts and rumbled back to the Bell Tower. Seriously, that 4 mile run with a couple thousand calories worth of donuts and sugar was harder than running a marathon. I couldn't eat for 24 hours after that. A friend of mine is a marathoner and also ran the KKChallenge once. He told me that one time was enough for him. He sticks to running marathons.

UNC's race doesn't involve eating, but it's a 10 mile course which is a little outside of my range.

Duke does have a few races but they aren't as big as the KK challenge.

Like most events designed to raise $$$ for a great cause, this will eventually turn into a big party atmosphere...a reason to hang around, pretend to care, and see how crazy you can look/act. Isn't that how many of these end up? Just sayin.

whoa...10 miles is a little outside my comfort zone too. no problem for my wife but i would be hurting trying that.

some people take the costume contest very seriously. did you see the two hamsters? hard to run in but at least they were warm.
