Nice job NCSU72. Howell should earn All-ACC either 1st or 2nd team. Like I have stated, he is the heart of this team. Had Leslie had half of his heart and attitude he could be really great too. If....

Howell needs to get his condition fixed so he does not sweat profusely and keep other players from guarding him. He has some type of problem which causes him to sweat like a mule.
Players surveyed have said he rebounds due to them not wanting to touch him as he is so sweaty and nasty. They all feel he should be banned from the sport until he does something about this.
It is completely unfair to all teams that play State kollege to allow this to continue. Hopefully something will be done soon to put him out until he fixes the issue!

The Pack shows greatness in games that they perceive as great challenges, agreed, this team just needs to show greatness consistently, no matter the competition, that's what will make them a contender, a champion, it can happen this season!

Yes, Coach Gott has got talent on this team, the challenge has been bringing them along, dealing with egos, it's a challenge that is apparent, dealing with young players with big heads. It's all part of coaching, it comes with the territory, but this team has played unselfishly at times, they have played defense as well at times, and the offense has been there for the most part. I just hope the younger players realize they have to pay their dues, for their own good they should listen to a veteran on this team, like Howell, and they have to really listen to their coaches, that's how they will develop, that's how they will become noted for greatness, and while they have done this at times, being consistent is true greatness, being consistent is what will make them a champion!

^ Second round projections for Howell. And, it's early yet. No NCAA. No word on who will declare early. He could fall lower or he could rise.

That wasn't the point of the thread. Trolls constantly jump in with carp -- this time sweating and low draft pick. Anything to deflect from Howell having had a good game and the Wolfpack winning. It's gotten predictably boring.

This thread is merely a "thank you." Howell received little or no mention in the N&O story on the game. Go to espn3, watch the end of the game and the massive screen he set for Wood. Without that, we lose. Wood was 3 - 9 for the game.

  • 86wolfAlumn Feb 11, 2013

But my fellow fan NCSU72 Bobo is right about the draft choice

Howell is not suited to the NBA but maybe the European or Asian league

I do appreciate him as a wolfpack college player though.

    Thanks RH!

^ Well, Honey Boo Boo, typically I ignore trolls. I'm only doing this out of sympathy, because obviously you failed reading comprehension. The thread title is a THANK YOU, not a draft analysis.
True sports fans do that -- thank players on the teams they support when they have an exceptionally good game. Howell's screen on the final play set up Wood for the winning 3 point shot. As a Wolfpack fan I appreciate his unselfish play.
    Now go troll someplace else.

  • My Name is Bobo Feb 11, 2013

You wolfer girls keep telling that to yourself and then lets see where he goes in draft. Maybe...just maybe he goes very late 2nd round or 3rd if he is lucky.
And then the players association will probably demand that he have surgery to control the mule sweating he does!!!

You've got that right and CJ (per stats) is 1" taller than Howell.

Sometimes it takes 4 years of college basketball to grow up. Look at Howell's progression here (of course you have to factor in the coaching change):

I second this commit. Howell's consistent intensity, passion, and work ethic is unmatched. The "asshamed-of-himself" heel fan is a possible example of their teams lack of work ethic as they complain about their games outcome but never seem to play hard enough to break a sweat, expecting the results to change without putting forth the effort for it to happen.

Howell is solid -- but Burleson was a better scorer (19 pt career avg, without the dunk), rebounder, shot-blocker, and passer...and did so against very good head-to-head competition.

Well said. Howell has played his way into the NBA. I will hate to see him go. Does anybody know where he ranks in rebounds all time at State? Trying to figure out who is ahead of him? My guess Tommy Burleson, Lorenzo Charles, Thurl Bailey, Cozell, Shack?

    Exactly, Tobaccoroad.

How nice to finally have a thread about sports (well, with the exception on the lone troll -- why is there always one....)

Coach K had this to say about Howell:
"He's one of the most unique players in the country. He's a kid that every team would want to start and be so easy to play with. He doesn't need the ball long. He plays with a lot of maturity. He rebounds the heck out of the ball. He has such a good demeanor. He never has a scowl on his face. He never gets frazzled."

Perhaps it takes being a senior to acquire that list of attributes. How unfortunate more players don't play college ball for four years rather than the mandatory one and then jump to the NBA. Sure, the money's great, but NBA life is a grind and unless you make the roster of one of the top teams can it really be as much fun as ACC basketball? Sadly, for most it's all about the money.

Today's N&O barely mentions Howell's beastly work in yesterday's game (Wood was 3 - 9 shooting). So, again, thanks to Howell for making sure the Wolfpack came out of Clemson with a W yesterday. Without him, I'm not so sure.

Howell has grown tremendously as a player over these four years. I think he has the best chance to make the transition to the NBA, more than any other player on State's roster. He's got an NBA body, experience, and a high BB IQ.
