This is a perfect example of why we say Pack fans are delusional. They are not a "dayum good team". They are average at best. They just let the worst team in the league take them to overtime. They're not even ranked. Your top 5 recruiting class should be in the top 5. Poor Pack fans. You just don't get it.

Sure, but is this the first basketball game you ever watched? There are always missed calls, both for and against every team. How many missed holding calls do you see in football? How many missed high-sticks and slashes do you see in hockey? In a fast moving sport with a bunch of guys on the court, field, ice the refs are not going to be able to see everything. That's just the way it is, so you might as well just accept it. This is not a conspiracy by Swofford and the BOG.

^^^^ TBK just has a hard time in facing reality at times. When State chokes it down he will see it. He only went away for two days 2-3 years ago when State was supposed to beat VT at home in football after a half-time lead.

If that ever happens, TBK will lock himself in his bedroom, cover his head in tin foil, and post about how evil Swoff and Hess are coming to get him and take him away.

Oh. TBK knows how to write. He can push buttons, and that's his game when his team wins. Otherwise, he will close it down. I would hope that one day that UNC, Duke, MD, or even VT could shoot 43-7 free throws vs NC State. See if TBK says the same darn thing then. Wait. I know this deal. I know it all too well.

With all the whining from the fanbase and the coaches at State the refs find it hard to focus on the actual game. State is and will continued to be blackballed until they get a reputable AD and coach. Truly sad to be so bitter against everyone and everything!

It was four steps from the point where he last dribbled. Here's the video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0jg2t-8tQI

He missed the shot and State rebounded it. So no harm done. But it wasn't even up for debate. The dude traveled horribly and the refs didn't call anything. This is how a team can overcome poor officiating -- the refs cannot put the ball in the basket for a team. But had he made the shot, it's two points that shouldn't have been.

Hans, even as a Carolina fan, surely you see where that traveling no-call was a very bad miss by the refs. That's all I'm saying here.

THEN you can BEGIN to make a case that the calling was biased in State's favor, which it wasn't. Every one of those hideously horrible calls and no-calls went in VT's favor.

Sure they do. Stats lie all the time. Ever heard the expression, "lies, dayum lies, and statistics"?

State pounded the ball inside and VT fouled them in the act of shooting. VT shot a lot more jumpers and 3-pointers -- no fouls on those shots. And many of State's fouls on VT were NOT in the act of shooting. So no free throws. VT also missed the front end of some 1-and-1's, which amounted to fewer free throws.

You can't look at that statistic and draw a conclusion from it. Can you make a case that VT's fouls were not fouls? Because every last one of them looked legit when I watched it on DVR that evening. If anything, State should have shot closer to 50 free throws.

Those 2 beers and 1 scotch you mentioned in another post must have made it difficult for you to count. Green clearly takes 4 steps with the ball in his hands to the basket. The video is even in slow motion -- come on, Hokie -- you're better than that. The basket counted. As did the illegal tip in to end the regulation game.

And, again, to bad for those of you don't know enough about basketball to understand the free throw differential. In addition to the difference created by NCSU playing an inside offensive game against a very physical VT defense and VT a very effective outside jump shot offensive game there were all of the "intentional" fouls hoping the NCSU players would miss -- don't know how many, but there were a lot.

Were the refs awful? Yes. Does the free throw differential make sense anyway? Yes. I was there -- VT was very rough under the NCSU basket and a lot of it didn't get called -- otherwise the VT team would have fouled out.

Pack fans, play the conspiracy theory if you want, but you are missing out on the big picture here with our team. The fact is, we should not be in so many close games were missed calls in the last 2 minutes kill us. We are in close games every week, whether it is the first place team or the last place team. Why is that? I know the main reason why. It is our lack of effort, skill, and passion on defense. WE MAKE the other teams have their best game of the year. With our lapses on defense. Any div I player can make an open shot if they are not guarded. So, we can dwell on each missed call that didnt go our way at the end of all these close games, or we can talk about the real problem with our team right now - Sustained Effort and Defense. Good defense will also produce more offense for us and allow our talents to shine more...I'm an NCSU fan, and I am saying we need to follow the mold of Duke a little more and get after it on D. This will make our offense a little easier in the end...Go 'Pack!

I did in fact mean the Hokies were very lucky in this game. It wasn't just some of the calls/no calls but look at the rebounding. Some of it was effort on VT's part and some was the ball just bounced to them, especially in the first half. There were a bunch of clutch shots that VT made; many of them were prayers thrown up at the end of the shot clock. Some of the three's were so far out that NBA players would have passed them up. Then there was the foul shot. Let's just forget about any calls/no calls on that play. How many times out of 100 would that play be successful? The throw and rebound off the rim has to be perfect, the player has to be in place, the shot has to go in? I didn't say or mean that VT didn't play well. What I said, and anyone can see, is that they had much more than thier share of luck in this game.

Not 43 to 7 but it does happen. Whether you like to admit it or not, the game was called awful-both ways. I can name a few plays that no one on here has named yet such as one of the calls on Lo Brown in the last 5 or so minutes of regulation, or the three pointer the VT player took and ended on his hiney that Wood tried to block (probably a good no call, but Wood had a simlilar call earlier that he benefited from).

TBK can talk his mess in regard to the officials all he wants. Had his team lived up to the hype, they wouldn't be complaining about the low life VT team on here tonight either. VT will kick some one day soon. We don't have all of those Mickey D's as does UNC, State, Duke, and others. I hope that all UNC fans can read this one too. Mostly fans. Not grad's. I will bow out when my school loses. I've never observed any team in my entire being to date when one team can shoot 43 FT's vs 7.

  • NCSU72 Feb 16, 2013
    Sports Legend

Okay. Here's the explanation. NCSU pushed the ball inside and the Hokies played hard defense. The Hokies shot a lot of uncontested jump shots and NCSU played little if any defense.

Just saw a replay of the VT free throws on ESPN to end regulation. ESPN said it was an illegal play -- the Hokie who got the rebound and put back left his position before the VT player shot and missed the 2nd free throw. 2 points. Game tied. Overtime. No call.

    And then, there's this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0jg2t-8tQI
Most of you will be able to count the 4 steps Green takes while holding the ball. No call. 2 points for VT.

ACC officiating is not very good regardless of which team wins. It's that simple.

I don't want or mean to take anything away from VT, because they played a great game of basketball. I also hate to complain about the officials, and I hate hearing others do the same, but I can't hold back this time: the ACC refs as of late have been completely incompetent. I don't believe I've ever seen a group of people perform their jobs more poorly in my entire life. These guys make the NFL replacement refs look like geniuses.

The Duke/BC last second fiasco was ridiculous, I think most people agree with that. Today, the two most egregious examples were: (1) a foul called on Richard Howell, when a VT player was hanging over his back like a cape; and (2) near the end of regulation, Tyler Lewis drove in for a layup, drew a foul, but his shot went off the backboard, down toward the rim, was swatted away by a VT player, AND NOT CALLED GOALTENDING.

I think the whole lot of them should be scrapped; there doesn't seem to be one competent official among the whole bunch.

It's starting to be very noticeable. I even heard some announcers talking about how the ACC officials call such ticky tack fouls, and how inconsistent their games are officiated. It's not just State fans, either. I even watched Virginia and GT and couldn't believe the calls. ACC refs are starting to be the laughing stock of college basketball. The one that takes the cake....when Corchiani was ejected from arena while sitting in the stands. How many times has a former player, who's banner is hanging above his head, get asked to leave in the middle of the game? They're a joke.
