Many have good points here (and a few - well - whatever) Maybe they can't give it their all for the entire game without wearing out too early on. But can't they please at least keep up and not fall so far behind. Cardiac Pack name aside - last second shots to win it/lose it are killing me. Go Pack!!

    Painter was a huge loss

Loss of Painter and De Thaey were both big blows to the current team. Painter would have been the biggest help, but De Thaey's loss is big just because of when it happened. I agree Vandenberg is good for only a few minutes of rest for one of the bigs. But, we have to live with what we have. Go Pack!

I think anyone expecting big things out of Vandenberg was just doing some wishful thinking, at best. For anyone who somewhat follows State basketball, the lack of success for Vandenberg shouldn't be a surprise. Sid only recruited Vandy because he missed on his other prospects and he needed someone for front court depth. To give you an idea, the other school in competition with State for Vandenberg was Utah Valley.

I'm pulling for the kid but he's out of his league in the ACC.

Vandenberg has been a colossal waste of space any time he's been on the floor. Might as well put a road cone out there.

    LOL

I threw the remote at a wall before and had the battery cover pop off and the batteries flying everywhere!

Ah, the life of a State fan!

At the time, I think most fans were anticipating that Vandenberg and de Thaey would be able to make greater contributions than has turned out to be the case. Significant productive minutes from either of those bigs (now only one of them) would have enabled the more skilled, athletic players to be more aggressive and free wheeling.

    Yeah. Probably.

Why are you so obsessed with the usual suspects anyway, Hans? I think that's the bigger question. Why do they bother you so? Do you always let the delusional bother you like this?

At this point I am with TBK and just want a win tonight, although after all these close games I could really use a blow out.

We absoulutely need to play inspired defense from the start of the game and throughout. If a Florda state player just easily dribbles around Scott Wood(as so many have done before) and Howell is forced to pick up his first foul in the first 30 seconds I think I may throw my TV out the window.

Hopefully Calvin and not CJ will show up as well.

    LETS GO PACK!!!

To be fair, I recall a few posters stating that Painter's departure would hurt. it probably wasn't any of the usual suspects, though.

Seems to me the alternative is to play at a slower tempo - a la Virginia or Wisconsin - but that doesn't really play to the strengths of this particular squad. I don't think people fully realized how much impact Painter's decision to transfer had on this team. I think State could still play uptempo, thanks to Lewis' emergence as a reliable point guard, but Warren and Purvis have to start playing more like sophomores than freshmen to make that work.

CJL can be a prima donna at times. And yes, Gott is a sharp character. If you were a State fan, you would see that. We are glad to have him.

This is fundamental strategy. When you have a 10-man rotation, you can run opponents out of the building for the majority of the game. When you are short of that, you play tough, all-out in spurts (e.g., the first and last four minutes of each half. And you crank it down a notch and cruise through other periods. Otherwise, you not only burn out in a given game, you burn out well before the season is over.

You do what your personnel allows for. I don't blame you for not knowing this. A lot of people don't. Why don't you go run full-sprint speed for about an hour. Tell us how long you can keep it up.

State is favored by 9.5 - FSU is a trainwreck. Pack needs to start getting tuned up for stretch run, Pack big. My Heels will struggle I hope we can pull out a 1 pt win.

... and it has nothing to do with Gottfried's inability to motivate the team or any lackadaisical, prima donna-like attitudes on the team, correct? Man, that Gottfried is one sharp character!

I think we recently offered a JUCO, didn't we?

Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying.

We have basically a seven-man rotation. We can't run 110mph from the opening tip or we'll be vomiting on the court by the end of the game. Are you suggesting State, one of your biggest rivals, should run themselves to death for the entire game?

  • Ken D. Feb 19, 2013
    Sports Legend

    View quoted thread

They better learn how to play good defense without expending too much energy or committing too many fouls. Because next year, they may very well have even less depth than they do now.

I think Gottfried should start looking to the JUCO ranks to build some depth with something other than untested freshmen.

jmcdow2792 has a point. State cannot play every game like that from the opening tip. We don't have enough depth to play that way for an entire game. Remember the Carolina game... we dominated them until we burned out. Then they came back against our exhausted troops. If that game had gone to overtime, we'd have lost by 20.

    Just win, baby. Just win.

What is it going to take for NCSU to come out aggressive in the first half? I am tired of us playing catchup late in the second. If only we came out strong and stayed that way...

  • jmcdow2792 Feb 19, 2013

How can you play an all out aggressive defense with a 7 player rotation? The fouls and exhaustion factor would eat State up this year. If we can get 9 or 10 in the rotation it would be different.

    Well hellz bellz duhh...

insert Lewis into the starting line-up and give him 30+ minutes...

Yes there are games tonite. With all the non State fans obsession with Lowe's tax problems, they probably don't realize that there are some basketball games tonite.
It would be refreshing to see State win a game that is not decided in the last few seconds. 3 in a row would be a good streak before we head over to the wine and cheese dome.

dont think so, i'm not sure they will blow anyone out, since they refuse to commit to defense...i expect another close game, and hope that they have finally learned how to finish without unforced errors, let get 3 in a row, GO PACK!!
