As of today, State is projected as a 9 seed, UNC is projected as a 10 seed. State has a better RPI and the easiest schedule left, UNC has tough games left, Duke, @Maryland, and even @Clemson could be tough. I would probably worry about UNC more than State as far as who stands the better chance of collaspe. State did loses to UNC, but they won 3 in a row before that, so 3-1 in their last 4 games isn't exactly collasping. They should go 4-0 in their last 4 games or maybe 3-1 at worse. UNC will probably go 2-2, it is possible for them to go 3-1, but I'd bet on 1-3 over that anyday. Duke, toss up, but Duke can match up against UNC's small line-up and will probably be favored, should be a Duke win, @ Clemson, going to be a toss up, if Clemson plays good at home, they win. @ Maryland loss. So State could still finish as high as 3rd in the conference and UNC can still finish as low as 5th. If they meet, State will beat UNC in the tournement.

Same for Carolina. Same for most teams short of 20 wins at the moment. Obviously, the season has to be completed before we know if teams are in or not. Neither of our teams can lose out and still definitely be in.

And State has beaten some BETTER teams, too.

Three of our losses to some LESSER teams were without Lorenzo Brown, too.

But I'm not arguing against your points. I'm just saying, from here on out, State has the easier path.

I also think we're both in, but yer boy Hans created this blog anyway.

I think you are right State has the easier road, we will see who handles the drive better.

However, not quite sure where you are getting your confidence from for road games - 2-5 in the ACC on the road, two wins were by a total of of 6 points. For a while there your losses were close also, but after a 7 and 11 point loss not so much now.

You can look at it two ways ..you will be playing bottom feeders that will go through the motion or bottom feeders that are motivated to go into the ACCT strong... we shall see

What you seem to be forgetting is that State has lost to LESSER teams this year! Then again according to the experts all teams were supposed to be LESSER than State!

State will make the dance and so will Carolina! End of discussion!

FSU was the "1" win that I gave them. At Maryland is tough, don't fool yourself. Just ask Duke about that. At Clemson is a probably, but that's not a given, either.

at Maryland and Duke are the real toughies. The other two are losable on a given day.

Whatever the case, it's s tougher road than State has ahead of them.

Most definitely, but State has the easier slate. I would rather face BC, GT and FSU than Maryland & Duke (& Clemson?).

at GT is probably the equivalent of at Clemson. Otherwise, State has the easier path.

But you're right, we both have to win some games.

Carolina, on the other hand, could easily lose 3 of their last 4.

at Clemson, FSU, at Maryland, Duke

So the bigger question is, if Carolina loses 3 of 4, are THEY definitely in? Is NC State enough of a quality win to get them in?

BC, at GT, Wake, at FSU

I think you about nailed it, they are playing 4 of the worst teams to end their season, so their chances for quality wins are only available in the ACCT. However they have 4 chances for BAD loses. March Madness!

    23-8 - gets them a 5 or 6 seed with a good ACCT showing or 7 - 8 with a bad ACCT showing

    22-9 - gets them a 6 or 7 seed with a good ACCT showing or 8 - 9 with a bad ACCT showing

    21 - 10 gets them a 9 - 11 seed with a good ACT showing, but 13 or 14 with a bad showing.

20 - 11 puts them in a scary situation and they would have to make it to the ACCT Championship

19 - 12 - no way unless they win the ACCT

Just my opinion. I'm not on the selection committee...

  • Hans Feb 25, 2013

Let's assume State continues their recent level of play. I see no reason to expect it to change, unless they are so demoralized after Saturday's loss that they tank the rest of the season. So, let's say they split the remaining 4 games. They'll be 21-10. Does the ACCT then become crucial for State to make the Dance? Does a 21-11 State team get in?
