I do believe CJ is really uncoachable I mean look Mark Gottfried has really done a great job of getting him to play up to par (look at the end of last year) but for some reason he has regressed. I think that has a lot to do of all the praise he got during the preseason, and I think it all went to his head. Which is not good for an athletic he has got to worry about the team first, and not his own stats. I think Leslie can play a whole lot better than this we are seeing, the question is will he?

Purvis has good size, and until his recent slump, he was playing well. Lewis gives his all every play. Gott does have choices besides Leslie, and it may behoove him to try those choices in the BC game.

Can't say I disagree entirely with the idea of Leslie coming off the bench. But it sure makes State a small team. Maybe that isn't such a bad thing. It took Williams a while to realize that his hopes of developing his young big men wasn't working out. If you bench Leslie, who do you replace him with as your fifth starter - Purvis or Lewis?

We all have an opinion about what to do with Leslie. The fact is, he is the same guy he was when he came to State. He has matured slightly, but he's still 20years old. He remimds me alot of Scott Wood, in that he hasn't developed his game to make himself the best he could be. Wood can,t or won't drive to the basket and he doesn,t shoot well off the drbble. Leslie can't score outside of twelve feet or won't try to keep the defense honest. Saturday he should have been hitting the 10-12 foot jump shot. Hairston couldn't have stopped it. If Leslie doesn't find a mid-range game he won't play in the NBA.

  • braves309 Feb 26, 2013

Who gives a about who has the better winning percentage. I was just asking the question about CJ. And ok what ever but the fact remains he is terrible, and worthless I have never seen a guy only care about himself. Until he proves me other wise, I will not be happy with him. I expect him to be a guy like Howell, every single night bring the effort. Why is that so hard for him? Oh I know he is a guy that cares only about himself. I hope he gets lost, Loser!

Roy has won 91% of his games vs State kollege and 100$ at the DD.....if you want some stats!

Like I said......Gott made it to the 3rd round of the NCAA......No ACC final = Overblown stats = lucky game vs GT.

This year will tell another story of failure for Gott......BUT OF COURSE HE IS GREAT!!!! rofl!!!

He did have 19 points against FSU. And I saw his 1 assist. His assist made me smile. THAT's the Leslie that we need. Drive the lane, draw the defender and give a 2ft pass (err handoff) to the open man. I think we will see a different team and a different leslie come ACC finals/NCAAT, much like the one we saw last year.

I wonder what States record would be without CJL? I wonder if State would have made the tourney without CJL last year? I wonder if they would have made the 16 without CJL? I still wonder how you dont get up for UNC? Agree CJL played terrible aganist UNC, buts its one game. Are the 8 eight losses all CJL's fault? Dude even got ripped for helping out a fan in a wheelchair!!

  • packalum10 Feb 25, 2013

Poor team defense, everyone's TO's and poor FT % lost this one. Sure CJL needs to be consistent for State to be successful and to have 10+ points, 7+ rebounds, but what about Purvis, Lewis and the other turnovers. CJL needs minutes, you can't just ride it out, but you can't ignore the facts that defensively several players checked out. The three things you can count on from this team, Richard rebounds, Wood shoots off screens and poor defense. This team has similar offensive and defensive numbers as last year. Talent wise, offensively better, defensively not so much. Gotta improve, but they have stayed consistently at this level all year. Lost 7 of 8 on the road/neutral. Dangerous team in March, but not a regular season dominant team.

exactly, Leslie needs to come off the bench, until he gets it together...think about it, if he sulks and doesnt produce, in that role, you know you have a dude that hasnt bought in AND your team gets some experience playing without him before the post-season...if he chooses to re-focus, and prove that he belongs on the court, then its all good....the Pack had fought back and taken the lead on unc without Leslie, and it all stopped when he was put back in the game....Lewis needs more minutes, Brown has too many turnovers for a point(he averages the most to's in the league), and Lewis has the spunk and drive to complement Howell and make his team better

  • braves309 Feb 25, 2013

Well I appreciate you guys feedback, but I do think he is a cancer stick to this team. I really believe if we another guy besides him we would be a whole lot better off.

Lo Brown and Howell are this year's stars on the Pack team, Leslie can be a star for sure. However, the stretch run has arrived and there is no time to wait for a player to adjust their attitude. Gottfried is probably better served. Treating Calvin as the third best option untill he proves he wants to play. Heck Lewis has enough time in now that he can start at PG and move Brown to 2 and Warren to Leslie's spot. What I didn't agree with is a fan of a team wanting a player of his caliber gone

  • Last Word Feb 25, 2013

Ive got to go with braves 68% and Sportznut 26% (the other 6% my wife has)

On one hand I believe if you are a star-caliber player, you bring effort every game out. Take Green for VT. Every game he gives 100% even though Im sure being a national top scorer on possibly one of the worst teams in the country has to be agonizing. Yet he never slacks because he has a winners mentality, and plays hard game in and game out. Calvin has had moments this season where he looks preoccupied with something other than the game. In the heels game I thought Purvis played with much more emotion and should have played while CJ watched.

Now..if Calvin suffered an injury, in any game, I would definately scream OMG. Because like you I too think that in order for the Pack to make any kind of run in the ncaas, we will need CJ/Calvin to play up to his potential. I love his game when he plays it, but Ive never been a fan of his attitude.

CJ had 4 turnovers in the first couple of minutes of the game and 2 the rest of the way. Your all-everything PG had 4 as did your Rookie POY candidate.

How easily some wolffies forget how many games they would have lost over the past 3 seasons without CJ. Similarly, there appears to be selective short-term memory wrt Howell's dumb fouls over the years and the times that (one dimensional) Wood has gone missing-in-action...both costing key games throughout.

As stated in a prior thread, there are other key concerns besides CJ that Gott has yet to figure out (Purvis slump, Lewis minutes, lack of TEAM DEFENSE, to name a few).

  • SportznutV2.0 Feb 25, 2013

I will tell you how much you do not want to see him go. Imagine right now that you saw the headline "CJ Leslie tears ACL out for the rest of the season" - you know what your first reaction will be - OMG!!!!

Leslie is going to be important in any run that the Pack makes this year - believe that. As a rival fan (and yes I think it is a rivalry) I enjoy watching when Leslie checks out for a game, but when he is on, he is about unstoppable.

  • barthc98 Feb 25, 2013

I don't necessarily agree with your larger point.... but I have to say that I was very disappointed with his very careless and lackadaisical passing saturday. He pretty much put the ball right in UNC hands several times, through shear carelessness. What good is a rebounding advantage then?

  • braves309 Feb 25, 2013

Look, I have been a supporter a lot time for Leslie, but the fact remains is I will not miss him really when he goes to the NBA or wherever. I think some guys are really unteachable and uncoachable and he is one of them. You can blame Mark gottfried all you want, but I really think Coach Gott has gotten all out of he can of leslie. You know sometimes we blame coaches for not getting their players up for games, but a lot rides on the player to get himself up for it, its not all on the coach. But as always I still love my wolfpack and will not give stop rooting for them, Go Pack!!
