The desperation with which the fringe clings to Philip "The Choker" Rivers speaks volumes about our football program. I laugh every time I see a pickup truck with a Chargers emblem in the back window rumbling noisily around town.

2009 - The Jets intercept Rivers at the end of the 3rd quarter setting up their go ahead TD at the beginning of the 4th. The Chargers punt on the following possession after Rivers was sacked and the Jets take over at their 38 yd line after a 25 yard punt return. The Chargers defense then gives up a 53 yard TD run by Shonn Greene (remember how TERRIBLE the Jets offense was), score is now 17-7. Rivers then leads his team down the field again only for his kicker to miss a 40 yard field goal. 40 yards. After forcing a punt, the Chargers came back down the field for a Philip Rivers touchdown to make the score 17-14. The onside kick was recovered by the Jets and the clock ran out.

Can anyone explain how missing a 40 yard field goal is the fault of Rivers? How about tackling Shonn Greene on that 53 yard gash? Should he have made that tackle as well? I guess these days QB's should kick the ball, tackle, and throw TD passes.

Can't wait to see how many tackles Renners has tonight.

2008 - On January 3, 2009, the San Diego Chargers defeated the Indianapolis Colts 23-17 to advance to the AFC Divisional Playoff. Rivers led the Chargers down the field down 3 points with under 2 minutes left. He set up Nate Kaeding for a game-tying field goal that would lead to overtime, where the Chargers would go on to win 23-17, thanks to a Darren Sproles touchdown. In the divisional round versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, Rivers played well throwing for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns but was sacked 4 times and threw an interception. Despite his efforts, the team fell short and lost to the Steelers 35-24. They possessed the ball for only 17 seconds during the third quarter and had only 15 yards rushing.

Anyone want to explain how throwing for 3 TDs, despite only having 17 seconds of possession in the third quarter, is the fault of Rivers? Sounds like he could have used some help from his defense but I guess it's his fault his defense couldn't stop the Steelers from putting up 35 points, right?

2007 - After a 1-3 start, the Chargers found their groove, finishing 11-5 and winning the AFC West for the second straight year. The Chargers also won their first two playoff games since the 1994 season, beating the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts before falling to the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game 21-12. In the 2007 AFC Championship Game, Rivers' was lauded by his teammates and the press for playing the entire game with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, which later required surgery and was ranked among the NFL Top 10 Gutsiest Performances. Chris Harry of the Orlando Sentinel said "I don't think anyone will ever accuse Philip Rivers of being soft." Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune said, "To go out there and put his knee, and ultimately his career, on the line. It has to go down as one of the gutsiest performances.

2006 - Up 14-13 in the 4th quarter, Rivers lead the Chargers down the field for a 83 yard drive to go up 21-13. The next series Tom Brady was picked off at the Chargers 31 but was fumbled and the Patriots recovered for the go ahead score and 2 pt conversion. After a three and out, the Patriots drove the length of the field AGAIN and kicked a field goal with a minute to go. RIvers drove his team BACK down the field only for his kicker to miss the field goal.

Care to explain how this is on Rivers? His defense picked off the ball and then fumbled on their own 31 for the go ahead Patriots score followed by his kicker missing a 50 yard FG.
