You mean like when I said "the defense wasn't the main reason State lost"? How does it feel to share the opinion of a "fringer"?

  • The Hans Oct 16, 2013

Could we agree maybe that both the offense AND defense weren't very good and both were responsible for the loss? I know you guys have a need to argue about every little thing possible, especially you fringers, but it seems that way to me.

To add, over the past year and a half FBS teams are a combined 6-210 when scoring 10 points or less. 6-210. Statistically speaking, that gave State a just 2.8% chance of pulling out a win with the offense performing as it was.

  • katokarma2.5 Oct 16, 2013

...or giving up almost 20 yards a pop on the ground in the deciding quarter.

(To be specific, Gulley ran for the 18-yard go-ahead score with 6:13 left. Hunt added a rushing score to make it a two-possession game with 2:39 left.)

No rushing _ in _oeren's _efense when it mattered the most.

And conversely, the offense was horrendous (scoring a field goal or less) in 3 of the 4 quarters.

Even with the amount of yards State gave up, they could have easily won the game had the offense executed like it was supposed to. You simply won't win many games only scoring 10 points.

Back to the op's topic...his team was really awful:

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - With the final seconds ticking off the clock, Shaw University's Darnell Evans strode down the sideline, slapping hands with each of his teammates, tears in his eyes. Seconds before, Evans had picked off his third pass of the afternoon and returned it for a touchdown to cement a Shaw comeback, giving the Bears a 44-34 win over Fayetteville State Saturday at Jeralds Stadium on the FSU campus.

The Bears, who improve to 3-3 on the season and pick up their first win - against two losses - in the CIAA, trailed 31-12 with 11:37 left in the third quarter, but outscored the Broncos 32-3 to close out the game - propelled in large part by Evans' play.

When it matted the most, _ave _oeren's run _efense was virtually non-existent...

With the game tied at 10 midway through the fourth quarter, Smith broke free for a 57-yard sprint up the middle of the Wolfpack's defense. On the next play, Gulley ran around the right side and into the end zone for the 18-yard score that made it 16-10.

On Syracuse's next possession, Gulley broke off a 48-yard run to crack the 100-yard mark. That ultimately set up Hunt's 8-yard keeper, which made it 22-10 and effectively sealed the win for the Orange.

OrangeMEN averaged nearly 20 yards per carry in the 4th against the wolfPUPs.

Yep, we're pretty awful. It was like a trip to the dentist watching that mess on Saturday. Our offense can't get it together, and the coaches were calling too much stupid junk. Just line it up and play football. They're doing things I made fun of Fedora for doing in his first year. Too much trickery attempts, the fake FG was terrible, and stupid. We needed the points. There were two FGs we didn't attempt that we should have. And the stupid mess play calling was also happening in the Wake game. I'm not a fan of that mess.

I don't know if half our problem is all the injuries, but I'm not using that as an excuse. But I will be cautiously HOPEFUL for improvement if we can get some guys back from injury.

Ppl calling for Doeren's head, or Fedora, are complete jack wads and probably don't need to be watching fball. You have two teams with players recruited for two completely different systems...there will NOT be an miraculous overnight transformation into BCS contenders. Packpride is full of these yahoos and I'm sure the Carolina site is too.

TOB's diamond in the rough recruiting philosophy left state in a state of screwednessnessness. Now UVA gets to enjoy him and his protege London.
