state thread....and half of it mentions UNC.....bless you ABCers hearts. Everyone knows that UNC is the ultimate program that state and dook want to be...but can we go a few seconds at least before ABCer make mention of the Heels in your own threads??? Nope. Go Heels! Keep the comparisons coming.....

Yep, and you copied it from when I used it over the last year when Mustafa got caught trying to run an experiment in the Aboretum, or when Sweezy got caught group studying up for his "Cannabis Culture 550" exam...

I think if the NCAA itself is going to penalize student-athletes for marijuana use, then maybe they should test for it. If their basis for doing so is not just its legal status but the fact that it affects performance (though not by enhancing it), they should go ahead and test for alcohol metabolites as well. Drinking could negatively impact a student-athlete's performance, possibly having even worse effects than marijuana consumption. In fact, I would rather have a student-athlete in a game who is actually high on marijuana than one with a severe hangover.
If the NCAA's sole basis for punishing marijuana use is its legal status, then that seems a bit unfair to me, depending on the severity of the criminal charge. In N.C., a first-time offender who has a class 3 misdemeanor marijuana possession charge (possession of less than 1/2 oz, which Thornton's 0.3 grams certainly is) can have his or her charge expunged after one year of unsupervised probation and good behavior, under N.C.G.S. 90-96. The legal effects of that are less severe than a traffic ticket. The NCAA does not seem to be punishing people for speeding (not even good ol' P.J.).

Funny video. Marijuana is an illegal drug according to federal and state laws.
That is a fact. Current laws will remain in effect until legislation is in place to say otherwise, regardless of the differing opinions.
Marijuana, as we all know, is certainly no performance-enhancing drug, but it's effects could certainly play a role in how student-athlete performs. That is a fact.
Question for you. Do you think student-athletes should be periodically tested for marijuana use now?
