North Carolina State head football coach Tom O'Brien ran his team through six separate end of game situations in the team's third scrimmage Tuesday.
"We do it this way all the time," said O'Brien. "It's one of the best things I ever got when I started at Boston College. So many learning things happen in this on all sides of the football. It's a great drill for the quarterbacks, it's good for the coaches – it's good for everybody."
It is a time of game that can tell a lot about the football team, and a time where NC State lost a few games over the 2010 season.
There was the Tyrod Taylor 39-yard touchdown pass to Jarrett Boykin with 1:27 left in the game that allowed Virginia Tech to rally from a 17-point deficit to take a win over NC State, and the Clemson field goal late in the fourth quarter that gave them the 14-13 win in Death Valley last November.
Tuesday's offensive scrimmage stats, 22-41 passing, 261 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions may not provide comfort, but for O'Brien it's not about the stats during scrimmages.
"The offense is judged on whether they make plays at the end of the game when they have to make plays," said O'Brien. "I don’t pay attention to any stats I give you after any scrimmage, to me it’s are they doing what they’re supposed to be doing in those situations."
And they were.
"They made some plays tonight that haven’t made the first two scrimmages so that’s positive for the offense," said O'Brien. "It's a positive for this team and hopefully a confidence builder for the offense. And it knocks the defense down a peg or two."
Though he said the offense caught up to the defense a little bit Tuesday, O'Brien acknowledged there is still work to be done.
“[Glennon's] not a finished product by any stretch of the imagination," O'Brien said. "The best thing that can happen to him is to finally get in to a game so he can play – that's what he needs. The thing he has to do is run the offense and if he runs the offense efficiently that will be leadership for us right now."
O'Brien also said red-shirt sophomore wide receiver Everett Proctor, out of Jack Britt High School, will be transferring to a junior college and is no longer with the team.
"[Proctor] didn't do what he was supposed to do as far as being a champion in the classroom and the community so he doesn't have a chance to play on the football field."

Badger, you don't appeciate anything but the hate.
Now 4 interceptions and 1 TD? I like those stats. I'll give him a TD for 4 interceptions when he plays my Heels. So when will the "product" be finished Tom?

Your posts are hilarious, how you post more on NCSU articles than NCSU fans. Love it, please keep it up!!! We all need a clown!

I told you my name is not a drug reference. In high school I started my first business, it was landscaping. It was called Weedies. So I would say grow up with your comments but at your age you are grown up, sad.
What is funny is you think your comments are witty and funny, in reality they are pathetic and feeble. It's sad to see someone so old filled with so much hate. I feel sorry for you. That is why you are the clown on here.

Thanks Thai Stick. Actually you have NEVER said that. I give everyone a nickname, yours is Thai Stick. I will call you Weedy if you post with honor but so far honor and you are bitter enemies. Tissue, shoulder, mop? You are crying a river. Interestingly I don't hate on the Wolfpack and have been complimentary of team, coaches, and players. I don't think Glennon is the real deal, so, it's an opinion and I have posted why he is not. I could end up wrong and hopefully I am but I think it will be next year before he blossoms, IMHO. You on the other hand post with dripping disdain for all things Tar Heel and never provide an objective post concerning said Heels. Now you are a true hater, and I just detest big mouth posters that post cr*p like you do then act all hurt when someone returns volley. You post honorably and so will I. I bust chops, but only when called for, and you ask for it like a kid asking for candy.
BTW, it's a TALK SMACK FORUM.

Did they win the National Title? NO
Did they win the ACC Championship game? NO
Did they win the Atlantic division within the ACC? NO
Did they beat East Carolina? NO
But, they did beat UNC. Yippee!!

Sorry homer, I failed to mention wins versus traditional powers like Western Carolina, Cincinnati, Central Florida and Wake Forest.
I should have known, mediocre programs like NC ST and their fans celebrate mediocrity to the fullest and want headline news when their Wolfpuppies beat up on the less fortunate.
9 wins last year, 3 were against legitimate opponents ... maybe 4, maybe.
Congratulations! Great season!

I find it funny when people question State's schedule considering everyone plays powderpuffs. Except UNC who scheduled their entire non conference schedule a few seasons ago against really tough teams and was broken by those teams (and UConn). But the fans totally felt the fact they played hard teams meant UNC was good also. No one realized hard teams wanted to play UNC because they sucked. I would rather develop a team that wins, has worked out all of its minor issues, and worked towards harder competition than get all of a team's talent destroyed in the first of the season, before the conference schedule has even started. It's better to be able to say "we had a 11-0 season" than to say "sure, we had a 3-8 season... but most of those teams were really good."

Hard to argue with much of what he said, though. To me, this is a make or break year for TOB. He's got his players, he's got his all-world 1st ballot HOF QB that he dumped the player of the year for, and he's got a ridiculously soft schedule. Anything less than 10 wins should be unacceptable. That said, I see them finishing 7-5 at best.

ha! Now that's pretty funny.
Not as funny as 9 major NCAA violations, but funny.

Hahahaha! I love how obsessed UNC fans are with what happens at State. They have their own hole to dig out of, and here they are making witty observations about the practice overview of the Pack. They all live in a big glass house and have a big old pile of rocks they feel the need to throw. They apparently don't bother focusing on education for the students or athletes at UNC, just on how to make themselves feel like the center of the universe.
