Raleigh, N.C. — North Carolina State head basketball coach Mark Gottfried will be dropping in on the Wolfpack football game Saturday - literally.
As part of military appreciation day, Gottfried will tandem parachute into Carter-Finley Stadium at halftime with the Rangers of the Army Golden Knights parachute team.
WRAL-TV will have a camera on-board with Gottfried, to give a first-person perspective of the jump that will be shown on the stadium’s video monitor.
"Much respect for him because that's not anything I want to try," said wide receiver TJ Graham. "That's probably a bucket list thing."
Head football coach Tom O'Brien also said he will avoid attempting the feats of his colleague.
"I would never jump out of an airplane, ever," said O'Brien.
Gottfried, who took over as the head man for the Wolfpack basketball team on April 5, will be paired in the jump with Sgt. 1st Class Mike Elliott. Elliott was also the tandem partner for President George H. W. Bush’s jump on his 80th birthday.
Also as part of NC State’s recognition of the military, there will be a B-2 Bomber fly-over and a full-field sized American flag held by members of the police, and fire departments as well as military.
NC State (1-1, 0-1 ACC) will take on South Alabama (2-0) in a 6 p.m. kickoff. Halftime is expected to be approximately 7:30 p.m., as the sun is setting.
Maybe they should try something at Kenan...your attendance was a joke on Saturday.
I think we'll just try to win the game, thank you. Hokey halftime stunts just won't meet criteria for "The Carolina Way".
Gottfried will only be "riding" down with a professional parachutist
Well then, that suit he will be "riding down" in must be awfully big to get the coed in too.- Posted by dsalterApparently y'all are not too educated on what a tandem jump is. Gottfried will only be "riding" down with a professional parachutist with over 1,000 free fall jumps to his credit....all over the world in national competition. He's not on his own on this.- Posted by fzero- Posted by TruthBKnown Left The Building- Posted by GoLower
Whilst I don't wish anyone to get hurt...I wouldn't mind seeing the 'chute get caught on a goalpost or something, and he'd have to just hang there until someone (Toby?) came and got him down.
That would be beyond classic.
That would absolutely rule! He could hang there on the goalpost while the game is being played. Best seat in the house!
Until the field goal unit comes on that is.
