David Amerson has a unique approach to the game of football.

"I like to think of it like it's a video game, I try and go out there and just have fun, any means necessary just have fun," said Amerson.

And he’s putting up video-game like numbers. Amerson leads the nation with nine interceptions in nine games.

Every team wants a shutdown corner, but Amerson is a takeaway corner.

"I think you should let plays come to you," said Amerson, "if you go out and try to make every play, you know you're playing db, you are going to get beat a lot of times. I just try to let the game come to me and try to play within my abilities and within in the scheme of the defense. I try and go and make plays I know I can make."

On with Adam and Joe on 99.9 the Fan ESPN Radio Wednseday, NC State head coach Tom O'Brien said that the defense was the key in the win over in-state rival UNC Saturday - a game in which Amerson had an interception at the goalline to help preserve the shutout.

"Certainly our defense, now that we’re starting to get healthy again, had a great day," O'Brien said.

O'Brien, when asked if he was surprised about Amerson's performance during the same interview, gave a sarcastic response indicating obvious support for the sophomore corner.

"Yeah, because we can't recruit big time defensive players here," he joked.

Amerson started nine games last year as a true freshman, and late in the year he felt things starting to click.

"I think it was around bowl season last year I started to get real comfortable and I was playing at a much faster and higher level than when I first came here," Amerson said.

That has translated into the kind of season defensive backs dream about. They say playing corner is like being left on an island, if so, Amerson’s island is a vacation home this year.

"You definitely have to have a certain level of confidence. A lot of guys talk a lot of stuff, you gotta back your talk up as well," said Amerson.

Those nine picks are an NC State record, and David Amerson still has at least three more games to play.

No one ever called anyone a thug because of their skin color. You're sickening to me for making it a race issue. Thug is a state of mind, not a skin color. One's actions earn them that label, not their skin color.

It's weird because it isn't true. You're the only one making it about race.

When Carolina has a white player that does something that justifies that term, I will use it on him. It just so happens that it has not happened yet.

Sweezy beating up that bus driver pretty much qualifies, too. If that makes you feel any better, he's a thug. If those stories are true. Since he wasn't prosecuted, I don't know exactly what happened that day.

Wral made it sound like this kid wasplaying on a top 25 team. BUT truthful (ugh!)State is sitting at 5-4 (Another mediocre season by Tom O'cain.
