NCSU breaks ties with former athlete Leak

Posted November 30, 2011

The North Carolina State athletics program dissociated from former NCSU athlete Eric Leak and any business owned by Leak after it was determined he provided impermissible benefits to a current and former student athlete.

NC State learned during an NCAA interview that Leak provided forward CJ Leslie and a relative with benefits totaling $410.

NC State reported violations to the NCAA. The university and the NCAA conducted a joint inquiry to determine the facts.

Forward CJ Leslie served a three game suspension and returned to competition Nov. 19th against Vanderbilt.

Following an auto accident in May 2011, Leslie borrowed a car from a friend and former NC State student. He used the car for about a week. In addition, the facts indicate that the same former student paid apartment application fees for Leslie's half-brother.

Leslie also will make charitable contributions of $410. The contributions represent the value of the car had it been rented ($150) and the application fees ($260).

Leak also admitted providing $1,349 in impermissible benefits to a former student athlete, Tracy Smith, which remains the subject of further review and handling through standard NCAA processes.

Leak is banned from purchasing season tickets for any sports or to lease football or basketball suites. He is not allowed to have any contact with any current or future student athlete, or any employee of the Athletic Department.

A wide receiver for the Wolfpack, Leak played from 1997-00.

    CHEATERS NEVER WIN!

We have not won that much in many years so your point. On the flip side, we are going to be winning a lot more in the next few years in basketball for a change.

NCheatStateU. I think someone should investigate Julius Hodge and his relationship with NCheatState. Something being covered up here. Maybe we need an imdependent investigation.

Good job NC State in being proactive. Unlike the thuuug school down the road who covered everything up for 4 years even after the NCAA notified them of wrongdoing. Posts from unc bandwagon fans... are you serious? Ya'll are like Oprah saying that Steve jobs was fat... find an article where you have some credibility, like African Studies and college degrees, wait... oh nevermind...

    Whatever.....

The WulfPecker coaches knew what was going on. And the AD. And who knows how many more....

Maybe that's why Sid was 'let go'. Had nothing to do with win & loses. His players were getting paid!

The coaches should be fired.....'oh wait....nevermind'.........and there should be an investigation. Period...point...blank. I wonder how much of this bleeds over to the football program. We need to start turning stones over there and see what's up.

If the NCAA doesn't look further then it's an obvious coverup going on in Raleigh.

Unlike the University that thinks their stuff does not stink(UNC), State was in the open and will stay in the open. Debbie Yow will not cheat-end of story!!

If all of you cheaters from Chapel Hill want to do is stir trouble, go back to Chapel Hill. Their is plenty of trouble still not aired there for you to stir up.

Weak response as expected. Is that all you have ?

  • Hokies94 Nov 30, 5:10 p.m.

State made a wise move to not allow Leak to enter the campus, football staduim, basketball, nor any other event for 10 years. Good news. That's the way it should be done at all schools.
