Mike Glennon faced a big question at the beginning of his first season as North Carolina State University's starting quarterback: Could he ever step out of the shadow of Russell Wilson?

He proved he could. More Info     Mike Glennon 2011 stats Mike Glennon 2011 season stats

In his last two games, Glennon passed for 8 touchdowns and just one pick in wins over Clemson and Maryland. For a player with veteran stats, Glennon said his first year as a starter was a growing process.

"I think we battled as a group. I personally did. I had some high moments and some low moments. I played through it and now we want to finish off the season strong," Glennon said Tuesday.

Even during the Wolfpack's down times, Glennon was never really the issue. He threw for 28 touchdowns this season and only 11 interceptions.

This didn't come as a surprise to the coach who took plenty of heat for letting Wilson walk away to Wisconsin.

"I think the best thing (Glennon) did, he has just focused on making himself better," Head Coach Tom O'Brien said.

Despite his share of growing pains, Glennon really settled into the role of running the offense.

"The first game was the biggest thing for me. After the Wake Forest game, things started to slow down," he said. "After that, there were some obstacles along the way. But overall, I think after the first game was my biggest improvement."

Glennon already ranks third in the N.C. State record book for touchdowns in a season behind Wilson and Phillip Rivers. He has a chance to tie Wilson with three touchdown passes in the Belk Bowl game on Dec. 27 in Charlotte.

RE: Glennon settles into role of Pack starting quarterback

Glennon could have a steller season next year with an OL. Look at what he did in one year of starting. He will up his game by 60% from this past year. He was in a learning mode for about 4-5 games. He did his part all the way through all games. I would rate him up there.

The defense hurt State. All too often. Play calling for NC State was still better than O'Cain for the Hokies. Glennon will be playing on Sundays one day, and making some huge money. His arm, intelligence, and not being afraid to pull the trigger makes him a Pro one day. I will bet that State will win their Bowl game. I only hope that the Beamer and all coaches have talked to our OC.

Or maybe that is all we have since he arrived that really stings you guys. We have one bowl win (shoulda been two), one nine-win season, and one top-25 finish. We also throw those things out periodically, but nothing rubs salt in your wound like the trusty ole 5-0 record since he arrived!

No one ever said it was nothing. Winning five straight over your top rival is always a good thing. You guys are the ones that are taking it to mean it's the ONLY thing. You really need to stop saying that. Makes you look silly.

I am actually glad to see him back for a year...and TOB for that matter.....mediocrity is safe for another year in Raleigh.

Reality is sometimes hard to face, believe me the reality that the Heels have lost to a mediocre team for five years in a row sucks, but the silver lining is that TOB/Archer have kept their jobs because of it

Who are you to preach to anyone about the mediocrity of their football team? You seem to forget that UNC's combined record since 2007 is a ravishing 19-28. And once again, you make completely absurd statements surrounding TOB. If beating UNC is what kept his job, then why was he still on the hot seat AFTER extending his undefeated streak against UNC this year?

That's because beating UNC is NOT what kept his job.

That's one of the things those people with superiority complexes have to believe in order to sleep at night.

It hasn't hurt that is for sure
I've come to that conclusion because a very high percentage of Pack fans mention 5-0 any time someone mentions his mediocre record at State....thinking 5-0 means something to State fans.
