NC State linebacker DJ Green has been suspended by the NCAA for the entire 2012 season. The sophomore from Macon, Georgia released a statement giving the reason for the suspension.

"During the off season, I wanted to gain weight so I took a supplement that someone from home gave to me. I wasn’t responsible enough to check with our coaches to make sure that it was something legal and now I’m paying the consequences. I apologize to my teammates, my coaches and to all the Wolfpack fans and hope that other players out there learn from my mistake. Even though it breaks my heart that I won’t be able to play next year, I will work hard every day in practice to help try to make my teammates better.”

Green played in seven games this past season for NC State before a foot injury ended his season. He had 28 tackles, a sack and one interception. Although banned from playing, Green will be able to practice with the Wolfpack.

RE: NCSU linebacker DJ Green suspended by NCAA

Green is listed as a sophomore on the roster. That means he has used two seasons of eligibility (he was in the 2010 class) and has not used a redshirt year. He played primarily on special teams his freshman year, and started 7 games in his sophomore year. To suggest that State's season is now "wrecked" because of this is more than a little over the top.

My question is, if he still has two years of eligibility after sitting out his suspension, how much of a punishment is that? He would have had the same thing if he broke his leg early next season.

According to an article in the N&O this morning, the punishment is loss of one year's eligibility, meaning Green has only one year left after serving his suspension. That makes more sense. Not sure why the WRAL article didn't make that clear.

Very true, Ken. The N&O gave a better explanation of how all this started and what the punishment is.

RE: NCSU linebacker DJ Green suspended by NCAA

I'm guessing you won't since you're not a NCSU graduate otherwise you would know about this black cloud that has hung over State for 65+ years.....

jeez dude, you're talking about stuff that happened in 1956. What relevance does that have today?

Cheating is cheating is cheating. And that and other major incidents have plagued NCSU sports for decades. That's the relevance. And by the way your guy "stephengory" asked for it......

RE: NCSU linebacker DJ Green suspended by NCAA

Isn't that cheating wusspakers??????????????

LOL...love the old, but reliable "you guys didn't go to UNC, you can't really be fans" whine.

Funny stuff.

It's not that you can't be a fan, but be a sensible and intelligent one. Not one that just rants and raves and state hates because you pull for UNC. I say my team, our team because I graduated from state, am a member of the Wolfpack Club and hold season football tix. Some UNC fans on hear bash and hate and can't even tell you where the Dean Dome or Kenan are even locatedand couldn't sing the school fight song or alma mater. I'm all for talk smack and debating, but 95% of this is just childish trash talk. The other 5% is funny and informational and thought-provoking and sometimes I learn things I didn't know. And I know there are many Red-Ragers out there that are the same way, and I would say the same thing to them. They just embarrass the rest of us knowledgeable college athletic fans.

Maybe you should share your thoughts with members of Pack Pride who are fixated on two UNC baseball players.

I'm not a huge fan of Pack Pride either. What I am a fan of is NCSU and the ACC. WE wonder why in-state talents usually runs for the hills. Top running back heads for Georgia after they already had another five star commit. Why do you think that is? I don't blame him. I wouldn't stay around here either with all the constant crying and bickering by the fan bases. You're not only bringing each other down, but your school and it's recruits too. most of you would rather throw each other the bus than talk intellectually about the ramifications of these scandals and negative press on the state of our in-state teams and the ACC.

Ok..is this an example of the intellectual conversation you are striving for?

" How many of you UNC fans can post any facts or stats about your beloved tarheels without googling or using wiki. Probably about 2% of you."

BTW, those are your words.

Again

forautumn, are you claiming that no one was kicked off the unc team? i'm just hearing they are. it seems that you're arguing that it's a lie. we'll see.

All of the following were kicked off the team.

Seth Baldwin was apparently removed due for academic problems. Bradley Morton is not mentioned but neither of them is listed on the current UNC roster. I have found no mention of any NCAA problems. Brian Goodwin was suspended for violating school pokicy and transfered to Dade College.

The only place claiming they were kicked off, or "booted" off, is Pack Pride.

I don't accept them as a valid source of info.

sorry.
