The Times Daily out of Florence, Alabama is reporting that former Louisiana State guard Ralston Turner has committed to NC State. The 6-6, 205 pound sophomore requested a transfer in May after a coaching change.

The new LSU head basketball coach Johnny Jones agreed to allow Turner to explore options of transferring as Turner had discussed with the former LSU coach Trent Johnson. Turner will be required to sit out the 2012-13 season and then will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Turner is from Muscle Shoals, AL and was recruited out of high school by Mark Gottfried while Gottfried was coaching at Alabama.

The sophomore average nine points and three rebounds a game during the 2011-12 Tigers season.

RE: Former LSU guard transferring to NC State

Scousler,
As an LSU fan by birth and a State fan by marriage, I'm very passionate about "The Pistol". Read a "Pistol" biography - there's a few out there (or stay in your bubble that the only good things in college basketball happen in Chapel Hill). Pete wanted to play at WVU. At the time that he finished at some miltary type academy, Press Maravich had already taken the job at LSU as the head coach. Basically, Press told him that if he didn't come to LSU, he wasn't welcome in his household ever again. But for Pete, State was never an option - so your attempt to cut down State's academics falls incredibly short. I wouldn't be making any academic cracks at State with what's going on at Carolina.

Second, Turner has been labled by many at LSU as a very lazy player. He doesn't have much of a work ethic. Hope playing at State and in the ACC changes that.

He is labeled as 'lazy?" Sounds like CJ pre Coach Gott. Maybe Coach can fire him up. Seeing your name, gotta ask, do LSU fans still have a strong dislike for Ole Miss as well?

When it comes to Ole Miss, we dislike them. But they HATE LSU. :)

At lease NCSU has academics. At UNC all you have to do, if your an athelete, is sign up for the class and you state out with a C, if you attend one class or turn in one paper (the paper does not have to be your own) then you get an A. Wow, some flagship schools will do anything to get players.

At lease?? You may need to spell check before commenting on someone's education

RE: Former LSU guard transferring to NC State

From LSU to NCSU? That hasn't happened since Pistol Pete couldn't get in to NCSU and had to play at LSU. Guess NCSU's academics are not what they were.

I believe it had everything to do with Pete's father going to LSU to coach and nothing to do with State.

Not sure if this is the intent but he might be a good replacement in Scott Wood's position - big guard, shooter...
