NCSU, UNC freshmen earn All-American honors

Tucson, Ariz. — NC State freshmen Carlos Rodon and Trea Turner and North Carolina freshman Benton Moss were named to the Louisville Slugger's Freshman All-American team, with Rodon capturing National Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors, announced Wednesday by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Rodon headlines the team by being named Collegiate Baseball's Freshman Pitcher of the Year, the first in NC State baseball history.

The honor comes just after Rodon was named one of three finalists for the Golden Spikes Award Tuesday and adds to his previous ACC Pitcher and ACC Freshman of the Year honors.

Turner landed on the list at third base after leading the nation in stolen bases, and earning NC State's single-season record in the process. The Lake Worth, Fla. native also hit .340 with 12 doubles, five homers, two triples, and 41 RBIs in his freshman campaign.

UNC righ-handed pitcher Moss finished his freshman year with a 7-2 record and a starter-low 1.94 ERA. Moss made 17 appearances, including 16 starts, for the Tar Heels as a freshman throwing 79 innings. The Rocky Mount, N.C., native struck out 83 batters and posted one of the lowest batting averages against in the ACC with a .218 mark.
