Raleigh, N.C. — North Carolina State University senior Sterling Lucas brings a coach's perspective onto the field for the Wolfpack this season.
He missed the entire 2011 campaign with a knee injury, and he spent those games in the coaches' box beside linebackers' coach Jon Tenuta, who was promoted to associate head coach for defense in the offseason.
"He's a guru, and I just tried to pick his brain and just learn everything that I could," Lucas said.
He will return to the field as a captain of the defense, an honor voted by his teammates. Lucas will need to lead, since the Wolfpack doesn't have any returning starters at the linebacker position.
He said of his time on the sideline, "I definitely think it will pay off a lot this year."
