Junior Lorenzo Brown and freshman T.J. Warren combined to score 45 points to lead NC State to an 83-76 victory over CB Torrejon on Tuesday. Brown, who had knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus in July, had a team-best 25 points off the bench, while Warren scored 20 in a starting role.

The Pack trailed 23-21 after the first of four periods, but Brown entered the game, sparking the offense and creating defensive problems for Torrejon with his quickness. NC State outscored Torrejon, 24-16, in the second period to take a 45-39 lead at the intermission.

Coming out of the halftime break, Scott Wood knocked down three straight 3-pointers to push the State advantage to 56-45. Wood finished the night with 21 points.

The Pack continued to push the pace and extended its lead to 72-57 by the end of the third period. The host, however, would not go away. A combination of missed opportunities from the field and at the line allowed Torrejon to claw its way back into the contest, cutting the score to 79-74 with a little under three minutes left the game.

NC State fought of the rally with a bucket by Warren and free throws by C.J. Leslie and Tyler Lewis.

Head coach Mark Gottfried said it was good start for his team, but said the ultimate goal is the get a jump on the upcoming season.

"There's so much to learn with a team when you start in October," said Gottfried. "Sometimes it's four or five games before you learn about you team. The nice thing about having these games is, like tonight, the score and time became an issue and we had T.J. and Tyler on the floor and I wanted Tyler on the floor, so he could learn from that situation.

"It's a great trip for these young guys."

Leslie had 10 points for the Wolfpack, while Tyler Lewis had three and Jordan Vandenberg and Thomas DeThaey each scored a point apiece.

NC State faces C.B. Torrejon again on Wednesday night. Game time is 7 p.m. locally and noon on the Eastern time. Pack fans can hear the game on 99.9 The Ticket, HD radio or at WRALsportsfan.com.

The Pack plays again Wednesday against CB Torregon as they continue their five exhibition games against club and professional squads during their 10-day trip to Spain. Fans can listen to the game on 99.9 HD3 The Ticket, streaming live on WRALSportsFan.com or on the WRALSportsFan mobile app.

The status of Rodney Purvis still remains in question as the NCAA is looking into his academic standing from his classes taken at Upper Room High School. He did not travel with the team to Spain.

RE: NC State opened play in Spain with a win

Wow, I got on here looking for actual thoughts and comments related to the game today, and what do I get? UNC Trolls!!!! Y'all troll so hard it's pretty funny.

Nice to hear Lo Brown, the best PG in the ACC and maybe in the country, getting in on the action today and dropping an easy 25. TJ Warren is a scoring machine, looking forward to seeing him drop 20's on ACC teams. Fun to hear some hoops today, Go Pack!

...And what did we get? More boorish comments from the king of the trolls.

Hold on, I'm on a NC State thread talking about stats and player involvement from the State game yesterday, and I'm the one trolling? I must have missed something.

Here's a UNC thread for you to check out that you can go post on:

...Feel better now?

RE: NC State opened play in Spain with a win

The light blue ragers comment first...must be a little uneasy about the pack's potential.

...Right now the potential is all on paper, let's see what they do in the ACC when it counts. I seriously doubt anyone in light blue is worrying about the Pack's potential.

You're probably right. It's not like they feel compelled to comment on every article that mentions the Pack, including pre-season training games and assistant coaching hires. Move along.

..So easy to get under any Pack fan's skin. You are all so defensive. Now you move along.

N.C. State improves to 2-0 with 80-57 win

Lorenzo Brown led the way for the second straight day as N.C. State completed the Spanish leg of its foreign exhibition tour with an 80-57 victory against CB Torrejon on Wednesday in Madrid.

The Wolfpack, which beat CB Torrejon 83-76 on Tuesday, established an early double-digit advantage in the rematch and led 42-27 at halftime. Head coach Mark Gottfried told radio play-by-play announcer Nima Omidvar, N.C. State's video coordinator, that the team had a better approach and more energy Wednesday.

"I think our defense early in the game was so much better than yesterday," Gottfried said. "We got a little bit better. Sometimes when you fly, like we did, halfway around the world, maybe yesterday we just didn't have our legs. Even though we played last night, we just seemed to be a lot fresher. We contained the dribble better, which really gave us trouble yesterday."

N.C. State opened the game with its four returning starters and freshman T.J. Warren on the floor. Gottfried complimented Scott Wood, who used one or two dribbles to create open jumpers for himself, and freshman guard Tyler Lewis, who played tougher defense and took more command of the offense. Brown, who had right knee surgery in late June, followed a 25-point effort Tuesday with another strong performance.

"He just looks really healthy," Gottfried said. "We've talked to our doctors a ton of times, and they say, "Turn him loose; he's ready to go." I've tried to temper his minutes just a little bit, but I think all in all he's looked good."

The Wolfpack is scheduled to conclude its trip with three games in the Canary Islands, home of the Canarias Basketball Academy, where sophomore Thomas de Thaey attended before enrolling at N.C. State. The Wolfpack returns to action Friday against the CB Gran Cararia Under-20 team at noon EDT.

RE: NC State opened play in Spain with a win

There is a strange bitterness in their (the holes') posts. It's like, they can't be content with their own athletic success. They really try to go out of their way to make darn sure State fans don't even THINK about getting happy about anything.

It's really strange.

But, but, I thought only State fans did that.

atleast one state fans understands that state fans are just as bad.

what potential, they played a bunch of scrubs from Spain and only won by 7. Sounds like to me the defense is weak.

Haha scrubs...really!? They played a bunch of professionals you! Come on man...if you don't know what you're talking about, just don't say anything. Save yourself the embarrassment.
