Six players scored in double figures for NC State as the Wolfpack defeated the Gran Canaria Select squad, 86-71, on Monday at the Centro Insular de Deportes. The Pack concluded its Spanish exhibition tour with a 4-0 mark.

Junior forward C.J. Leslie had his best outing of the trip, scoring 19 points, with 14 of those coming after intermission. He also tied with senior forward Richard Howell for top rebounding honors with eight boards in the contest. {{embed href="page=1"}}

Freshman guard Tyler Lewis also had his best performance to date, notching 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-2 from 3-point range. He also tied fellow guard, junior Lorenzo Brown, for top assist honors with six on the day.

Also scoring in double figures were Brown and Howell with 13 each, while forwards, senior Scott Wood and freshman T.J. Warren, each contributed 10 in the victory.

Wolfpack head coach Mark Gottfried was pleased by the overall improvement shown by his team on the trip, but noted there was still plenty of room for growth once preseason practice begins in October.

“I like the fact our guys had a lot of energy and played the right way,” Gottfried said. “When I look at the trip, overall it was a good trip. We got a lot accomplished. I know where we want to be and I know what’s facing us down the road here and we’ve got to get a lot better.”

NC State was originally slated to play five contests on its tour, but Sunday’s game was called at halftime due slick playing surface created by sand blown from the Sahara Desert some 300 miles away from the venue.

Congrats to the Pack - good way to start the year with pre-seaon sweep. Looking forward to the UNC/State games this year.

It is sad that Purvis could not make the trip. Has his problem been solved yet??
It was good as well to hear that Lorenzo Brown got some playing time. I thought he was not expected to return until September.

WE may be young in some areas this season. This is quite the turnaround from 2 years ago. Great job-Coach Gott and co.

With this much talent, coach-let's run our opponents ragged this season. Wouldn't that be fun???

GO PACK!!!

LOL!!!

Beating this caliber of team doesn't necessarily prove anything, but losing one or more of these games might have been a red flag.

Here's to no red flags and finishing this trip 5-0. Too bad the NCAA wouldn't allow Purvis to make the trip and play. Oh well, congrats and GO PACK!!!
