A slow start to the match saw both teams trade a handful of opportunities, before the Wolfpack opened the flood gates with all five goals coming in a stretch of 36:13 that spanned both halves of play.

Colligan opened the scoring in the 36th minute when her header off a cross from Cheyenne Spade initially hit the far right post, but the ball ricochetted off the back of the Bulldog keeper and into the net for a 1-0 advantage.

Moments later Stanko got into the action when she was taken down in the box, and The Citadel was booked for a yellow card. The proceeding penalty kick was converted by Ariela Schreibeis for a 2-0 lead at 39:46.

NC State had 10 shots in the first half and a 2-0 lead at intermission.

Stanko started the second half and that decision paid off in the 56th minute when she blasted a shot from close range off an assist from Jennie Krauser.

Colligan took a hand off from Rachel Harris at 61:25 and she deposited a ball off the cross bar and into the net for her team-leading third goal of the year.

Stanko capped the goal-scoring flurry in the 72nd minute with a spectacular shot with pace that found the upper-left corner for a 5-0 lead.

The five goals is the most scored by the team since a 6-0 win over Loyola (Md.) on Sept. 5, 2010, and also marks the third most goals scored in a game under the guidance of fourth-year head coach Steve Springthorpe.

Victoria Hopkins made one save in 78:44 of action. Madison Shaw played the final 11 minutes in net for the Wolfpack.

Bulldog keeper Sarah Katchen made seven saves.

NC State is right back in action Sunday hosting Elon at 3 p.m.
